9th Annual East Passyunk Car Show and Street Festival Returns with 140+ Cars, Food, Circus, Music and More

East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District (EPABID) is revving up for the 9th Annual Car Show and Street Festival on Sunday, July 27, 2014, from Noon to 5:00pm, on EPA between Broad and Dickinson streets. Over 140 muscle, classic, antique, custom and show cars, trucks and motorcycles will line Avenue, with circus performers, street vendors, rack sales, kids’ activities, live music and the Bang! Boom! CRAFT! Show in between. Wine and dine among the cars as award-winning restaurants and food trucks serve street food and summertime drinks. Admission is FREE for attendees and $15 for cars. Serrano Restaurant in Old City Hosts Pop-up with Ranch Road Taco Shop

Serrano Restaurant announces that Ranch Road Taco Shop will pop-up in the kitchen starting on Wednesday, July 16, 2014. Chef Meghan Carnevale will serve her authentic Mexican street food, including Blackened Catfish Tacos, Pomegranate Guacamole and Mexican street corn with ancho lime aioli and asiago cheese. The special menu will be paired with rotating bar specials that will include sangria, signature cocktails, boutique wines and craft beers. The pop-up will run from 5:00pm to Midnight, Wednesdays through Saturdays, through at least early August.

Philadelphia Top Pizzerias Face Off in 6th Annual Pizza Olympics

The 6th Annual Pizza Olympics returns this Thursday, July 17, 2014, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, at Penn’s Landing Caterers. Fifteen of Philadelphia’s premier pizza parlors will vie for attendee votes to decide the gold, silver, and bronze medals in several categories as well as the top prize of overall favorite slice. Guests will also enjoy a DJ and dancing, raffles and prizes, drink specials, and a performance by the Mummers. Tickets are $15 and include all-you-can-eat pizza and giveaways from sponsors Coca-Cola, Liscio’s Bakery, and Utz Potato Chips. 20 Restaurants Go Grill to Grill in Dog Days of Summer Cook-Off by South Street Headhouse District

Twenty of the region’s top restaurants and food trucks will go grill-to-grill in the summer’s ultimate hot-dog competition. South Street Headhouse District, in conjunction with Hot Diggity!, will host the 3rd Annual Dog Days of Summer Cook-Off on Saturday, July 19, 2014, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, under the historic Headhouse Square Shambles (400 Block of South 2nd Street between Lombard and Pine). Sample the most flavorful, unique and inventive hot dogs while enjoying craft beer, live music, an amateur toppings contest and other summertime fun. VIP passes are $30 and include early access at Noon, a VIP gift and 20 food/drink tickets. General admission is free, with food/drink tickets costing 4/$10 and 15/$30. Chef Luke Palladino Celebrates Squash Blossom Season with Must-Try Summer Dish

After an extremely harsh winter, squash blossoms are beginning their late bloom at area farms. In celebration of the delicate flower’s return, Chef Luke Palladino presents Fiori di Zucca, which features locally sourced squash blossoms stuffed with sweet corn, ricotta, mozzarella, and parmigiano reggiano, tempura fried and tossed with parmigiano reggiano, chives and parsley. This must-try dish will be available at Luke Palladino Seasonal Italian Cooking (199 New Road, Central Square, Linwood, NJ 08221) starting on Monday, June 16, 2014. That morning, Luke will visit Dan Graiff Farm to personally select the blossoms for the evening’s dinner service. Guests that evening will receive a complimentary order plus enjoy a free glass of prosecco.

East Passyunk Quenches Summertime Thirst with Craft Beer Day and Italian National Day Festival

East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District (EPABID) serves up a double dose of summertime fun with two festivals on Sunday, June 1, 2014. Starting at 11:00 AM, Philly Beer Week kicks off with 15 hours of craft beer events during Craft Beer Day. East Passyunk restaurants, bars and retailers will present opportunities to meet the brewers, try new craft beers, and enjoy beer-infused and inspired foods. Starting at 11:00am, Italian National Day Festival “La Festa Della Repubblica” will feature a full day of live music, the grand opening of the “History of Italian Immigration Museum,” Italian draft and bottled beer specials, outdoor food vendors, kids’ activities and a spaghetti eating contest. La Festa activities are held on East Passyunk Avenue, between Broad and Moore streets. Events are held rain or shine. Admission is free, unless otherwise noted. Food and drinks are pay-as-you-go. Philadelphia FIGHT kicks off AIDS Education Month with a reception at Independence Visitors Center on Tuesday, June 3, 2014. Join us for a special evening of hors d’oeuvres, conversation and the presentation of the Kiyoshi Kuromiya Award. This annual award recognizes individuals and organizations that are exemplars in fighting for the rights of people with HIV. This year’s winner is Noble Prize recipient Françoise Barré-Sinoussi, PhD, who is being honored for her contributions to HIV/AIDS research and the discovery of HIV.
