Mt. Airy USA Announces Must-Try Eats and Sips for Street Fare (Formerly Night Market) on Thursday, September 17, 2015

Fifty food trucks and restaurants roll into Mt. Airy this Thursday night (September 17, 2015) for Street Fare: Sip, Savor, Stroll from 6:00pm to 10:30pm. The annual fall festival will feature sweet, salty and savory plates, plus cold sips, on Germantown Avenue (between Sedgwick Street and W. Mt. Airy Avenue). Children and adults of all ages will enjoy free activities and entertainment, artisanal crafts, and live music from School of Rock, ReLive, Hennessey Bonfire, Bethlehem & Sad Patrick, Philly Bloco and The Band Sheep. Salons and Spas Cut Out Cancer During HopeCuts to Benefit City of Hope

Over 100 top salons and spas in Philadelphia and the Mid-Atlantic region will donate their time, services and 100% of their daily proceeds for the 19th annual “HopeCuts” event to benefit City of Hope. On Sunday, September 14, 2014 (or an alternative date selected by salons), staff come in on their day off and volunteer their time to help cut out cancer, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses. HopeCuts events and promotions will vary by salon, but may include specially priced services, entertainment, refreshments, raffle prizes and more. Philadelphia FIGHT Honors Françoise Barré-Sinoussi, PhD at AIDS Education Month Opening Reception

Philadelphia FIGHT kicks off AIDS Education Month with a reception at Independence Visitors Center on Tuesday, June 3, 2014. Join us for a special evening of hors d’oeuvres, conversation and the presentation of the Kiyoshi Kuromiya Award. This annual award recognizes individuals and organizations that are exemplars in fighting for the rights of people with HIV. This year’s winner is Noble Prize recipient Françoise Barré-Sinoussi, PhD, who is being honored for her contributions to HIV/AIDS research and the discovery of HIV. Uninsured Children to Receive FREE Eye Exams and Glasses During Give Kids Sight Day

All uninsured and underinsured children can receive free eye screenings and, if needed, two free pairs of eyeglasses at “Give Kids Sight Day” on Saturday, April 12th, 2014. All children, 18 and under, will be examined on a first come, first served basis from 8:30am until 2:00pm. No insurance or appointments are necessary.

Children from Philadelphia and the suburbs who have failed an eye screening at school or have not had their eyes examined in the last year are strongly urged to attend. Registration for this free event will take place at the Hamilton Building at Thomas Jefferson University located at 10th and Locust Streets in Philadelphia.
