Philly AIDS Thrift Hosts Drive-in Movie and Announces Major Expansion

Philly AIDS Thrift invites you to grab your cha-cha heels, clutch your pearls and head to the Philadelphia Navy Yard for a special movie fundraiser at sundown! Philly AIDS Thrift, in collaboration with Philadelphia Film Society, presents a special Philly Gay Pride Month drive-in movie with Female Trouble on Wednesday, June 2nd. The 1974 cult classic by John Waters stars the one and only Divine - and the drive-in event will feature Divine-esque drag queens greeting and thanking all the movie-goers. Proceeds from the event will help raise money for a major building expansion that will include a brand-new donation intake center that means more donations can safely be taken in, producing more sales and even more grants to local nonprofits helping people with HIV/AIDS. Tickets for the drive-in movie are $35 per car, and include access to the movie, food trucks and a chance to win fun door prizes. The drive-in movie lot opens at 8:00pm, with the movie starting at 9:00pm. Female Trouble runs for 89 minutes.

Sofitel Celebrates Philly Pride with Drag Tea, Gay Flag Exhibit, And New Charity Program

Sofitel Philadelphia at Rittenhouse Square, part of AccorHotels, presents a month-long celebration for June as Philadelphia Gay Pride Month. The Sofitel Philadelphia will raise a giant Philadelphia-version of the Gay Pride Flag to hang proudly outside the hotel on 17th Street. Inside, neighbors, guests and visitors are invited to visit the Hall of LGBTQ Flags Exhibition featuring six individual LGBTQ flags flying high above the lobby to celebrate the diversity of the local and hotel LGBTQ community. The raising of the flags coincides with a month-long benefit to support the William Way LGBT Community Center. On Saturdays, June 5th and 12th, Sofitel Philadelphia and Brittany Lynn’s Drag Mafia Present Sofitel's Pride Drag Tea featuring the Sofitel famous tea-service with an entertaining and drag twist. A portion of proceeds from the Drag Tea will go to support the capital campaign and operations at William Way LGBT Community Center. Sofitel is located at 120 S. 17th Street, Philadelphia in the heart of Rittenhouse Square.

Come Alive 215 and Meet Philadelphia have joined forces to present one of the most unique, fun and heart-pumping outdoor events for Philly Gay Pride Month. Come Alive 215 x Meet Philadelphia Pride Workout, Drag Show and Picnic Brunch brings together a morning of movement, celebration, charity and community on Saturday, June 12, 2021, from 9:15am to 1:30pm. Hot off of winning Best of Philly for 2020 Best Virtual Workout and exercise class, fitness gurus Kim Harari and Shannon Brennan will bring their electric, contagious and community-driven fitness experience to the Lawn at Park Towne Place (2200 Benjamin Franklin Parkway). The event will feature a 45 minute workout programmed for all fitness levels, followed by a drag show and a picnic brunch. Brunch bites will be provided by one of Philadelphia's most celebrated chefs, Michael Solomonov of Zahav, Federal Donuts, Dizengoff, Abe Fisher and Goldie.

Philadelphia Zoo Debuts Friday Nights Dinos and Bites with Extended Hours

Philadelphia Zoo (3400 W. Girard Avenue) is set to take a dinosaur-sized bite out of summer with the launch of Friday Nights Dinos and Bites. Beginning every Friday, from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend, the Zoo will host a new evening adventure with extended hours, amazing animals, life-size animatronic dinosaurs and prehistoric-themed foods, that complement the new exhibit, Big Time: Life in an Endangerous Zone experience. Newly-renamed, Bedrock Brews beer garden and Dino Bites fooderie, fire up pre-historic burger and beer pairings and other tasty treats to chomp on, making Friday Nights Dinos and Bites the perfect spot for a night out with the family or a dino-mite date night for adults. Northern Liberties Business Improvement District announces the debut of a brand-new, self-guided Philadelphia Mural Art Crawl just in time for summer. Northern Liberties Mural Hunt: Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Street Art will debut on Friday, May 28th and run through Monday, July 5th. Participants in the scavenger hunt can participate by downloading the free Let’s Roam app from Google Play or the Apple store, then locate the mural hunt on the app’s regional map. Parks on Tap Debuts Two New Waterfront Locations on Schuylkill River This Weekend

Parks on Tap announces that Philadelphia’s famous beer garden that gives back is making moves, announcing two new season-long locations for 2021. The official season opening for both outside the famous Fairmount Water Works (640 Waterworks Drive) and at the all-new South-to-Christian Trails End (entry ramp at South Street and South 27th Street) is set for Thursday, May 6th at 4:00pm. After a year of dark stages, millions in lost ticket sales and thousands of lost jobs, the Philadelphia theatre scene will rise again after the pandemic shut-downs with 11 days, 64 organizations, 72 events, and hundreds of performances. This fourth year celebration will showcase the strength, resilience, talent and diversity of the tri-state region’s theatre scene through virtual and in-person shows that will be hosted in every corner of Philadelphia, and in the Philadelphia suburbs, Delaware and South Jersey. Events will include a variety of live and pre-recorded virtual performances, panels, workshops, theatre-by-mail, audio plays and in-person outdoor events.
