Public media station WHYY, StoryCorps and Temple University are delighted to announce their collaboration on an exciting new initiative, “Brightness in Black,” as part of StoryCorps’ 2024 Mobile Tour. This partnership aims to highlight and celebrate the richness of Black experiences through personal stories that showcase joy, resilience and cultural pride. The StoryCorp airstream is now open for appointments from its location on the campus of Temple University through September 6th.

Come one, come all! Philadelphia School of Circus Arts presents Philly's 1st Annual World Circus Day Celebration and Festival on Saturday, April 20th, from 11:00am to 8:00pm. The celebration will take place at the region's "big top" called Circus Campus, at 6452 Greene Street, in West Mount Airy, with free parking on site. The new all ages, all day festival will feature classes, demonstrations and performances for kids to adults, newbies to those with experience, and everyone in between. The World Circus Day Celebration will culminate at 8:00pm with a pay-what-you-can “Spectacular Staff” circus show featuring professional artists from our faculty.

Philadelphia Zoo and Craft Hospitality Announce Philly Wine Fest 2024

Philadelphia Zoo is partnering with Craft Hospitality to bring a fabulous selection of wines to the Zoo for Philly Wine Fest: Spring Edition on Saturday, May 18. More than two dozen wineries will be pouring a wide selection of specially curated seasonal reds, whites, rosés and more. The event will take place on the Zoo’s Impala Lawn with live entertainment performing throughout the day on Impala Stage. Guests are invited to choose from two sessions, 1:00-3:00pm or 4:30-6:30pm, with Early Access options available for admission an hour before the rest of the crowd. This adults-only event is limited to those 21 or older with valid identification. Tickets to the Philly Wine Fest also grant attendees complimentary access to visit the Philadelphia Zoo any time prior to their Philly Wine Fest session time.

Let the Mud Fly! 16th Anniversary Kensington Derby and Arts Festival Moves to Frankford Avenue

East Kensington’s long-time parade and arts festival is moving over to Frankford Avenue. Fishtown District, with support from Penn Treaty Special Services District, presents Kensington Derby and Arts Fest on Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 12:00pm to 6:00pm, on Frankford Avenue, from York St to Huntingdon St. The event, which won Best of Philly in 2023, is back and ready to let the mud fly! Derby teams prepare human-powered sculptures crafted from recycled bicycles and other materials and ride their contraptions through various obstacles ending with a spectacular mud-pit finish at the arts festival grounds. Winners are then crowned in categories that have ranged over the years like Best Art, Best Costume, Best Engineering, Media Choice and Judge’s Choice. The parade is free to participate, open to all ages and abilities with a bike, helmet, and pun-y team name.
