Maifest Returns to South Street with Philly's Tallest Maypole, German Food, Dancing and More
/Brauhaus Schmitz presents the 11th Annual Maifest spring festival and block party on Saturday, May 4, 2024, from 11:00am to 8:00pm. Philadelphia's premiere German restaurant and beer hall will close down South Street at the 700 block for an all day, all ages celebration that will feature authentic German culture, live music, delicious food, and of course, plenty of beer! The festivities will include Pennsylvania's largest Maypole, performances by Die Heimatklange Band and United German Hungarian Dance group, Liter Lift Competition, Pig Roast, face painting, flower crowns, key tapping, games and fun for the whole family. The all-day outdoor block party is free to attend, with food and drink pay as you go. VIP tickets are also available for $100 and include food, drink and access to the Brauer Bund where you will find seating, private bathroom, an extensive German Food Buffet and TVs to catch sporting events of the day and the Kentucky Derby. Say Guten Tag to spring in Philadelphia with the return of Maifest on South Street. Maifest, or May Day, is a beloved German tradition celebrating the arrival of spring. Locally, the one-day block-buster festival returns every first Saturday of May and draws over 10,000 people that fill South Street and inside Brauhaus Schmitz. Festivities for the day will include:
Live Music - From 1:30pm to 6:00pm, enjoy the sounds of traditional German oompah songs as well as party hits performed by Brauhaus regulars “Die Heimatklange Band."
Entertainment - Be sure to catch the United German Hungarian Dance group as they perform traditional folk dances around Philadelphia’s tallest Maypole.
Liter Lift Competition - At 1:00pm, come cheer on 20 of Philadelphia’s strongest men and women as they compete to see who can hold a Liter of beer up the longest and secure a spot in the national championship in NYC.
Keg Tapping - Join the Brahaus family and raise a stein for the annual key tapping at 1:30pm with Hager and his family and key staff to kick off the day's festivities.
Delicious Food - Indulge in mouthwatering German fare including Pig Roast, bratwurst, pretzels, schnitzel, Sauerkraut, Potato Salad and more!
German Bier - Toast to the season with an extensive selection of 10 different German beers, including refreshing lagers, flavorful Wheat beers, and crisp pilsners and Cider. Plus don't forget to bring your squad to share a Schnapsski.
Family-Friendly Activities - Bring the whole family for games, face painting, flower crown, dancing and other activities suitable for all ages.
