Philadelphia School of Circus Arts Presents World Circus Day Celebration and Festival

Come one, come all! Philadelphia School of Circus Arts presents Philly's 1st Annual World Circus Day Celebration and Festival on Saturday, April 20th, from 11:00am to 8:00pm. The celebration will take place at the region's "big top" called Circus Campus, at 6452 Greene Street, in West Mount Airy, with free parking on site. The new all ages, all day festival will feature classes, demonstrations and performances for kids to adults, newbies to those with experience, and everyone in between. The World Circus Day Celebration will culminate at 8:00pm with a pay-what-you-can “Spectacular Staff” circus show featuring professional artists from our faculty.

Port Richmond Celebrates 175th Anniversary

The neighborhood of Port Richmond is turning 175 years old! All of Philadelphia is invited to the official celebration. Port Richmond Neighborhood Association will host The Official Port Richmond 175th Anniversary Celebration and Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 26th, from 2:00pm to 6:00pm, at Cohocksink Recreation Center. PRNA and community volunteers have been hosting an anniversary celebration for the iconic neighborhood formally since 2020 and informally since 2015. This year, PRNA will host its largest celebration to date with a free outdoor community party that will include a Port Richmond-Opoly Monopoly Tournament, cake ceremony, egg hunt, senior of the year, live music, family fun, vendors, food and more. Special guests and appearances will include Philadelphia School of Circus Arts' Youth Troupe, Easter Bunny, Minnie Mouse, Michael Jackson impersonator, Pawlucy Tae Kwon Do, Polish American String Band, The 501st Legion, and more. The iconic Stocks' Bakery will be making and donating the official 175th Anniversary cake, with a piece of cake for the first 300 people. Councilman Mark Squilla will present PRNA and the neighborhood with a special City Council citation to celebrate the milestone. Lokal Artisan Foods and French Toast Bites will be on hand with Port Richmond-roasted coffee made with Bean 2 Bean. The Easter Egg Hunt kicks things off right at 2:00pm, with the cake and ceremony at 4:00pm. The celebration is free and open to the public. The rain date is set for Sunday, March 27th.

America’s First Higher-Education Circus School To Open In Philadelphia Fall 2017

Philadelphia, a city of many historic firsts, will take to the air and make history by being home to America’s first circus school providing a vocational diploma. Executive Director Shana Kennedy, from the Philadelphia School of Circus Arts, unveiled plans for Circadium, School of Contemporary Circus, at a press conference outside the iconic Philadelphia Museum of Art. The full-time, three-year, non-profit training program will bring together circus students seeking higher education and professional training opportunities. Circadium will open in fall of 2017 in a new facility that will also become the new home for the Philadelphia School of Circus Arts. Negotiations for the purchase of the new facility are currently underway. A Kickstarter campaign for the new non-profit school was launched today, and seeks to raise $50,000 in start-up funds to support Circadium’s mission. Behind the curtain of the big top, no one is laughing harder than the saddest clown of them all. Philadelphia Artists’ Collective, in partnership with Philadelphia School of Circus Arts, presents the Philadelphia premiere of He Who Gets Slapped, from March 30 to April 16, 2016, at Broad Street Ministry (315 S. Broad Street). A cast of clowns, lion-tamers and ringmasters perform their routines under a striped awning and glowing lights.  When a new clown arrives, his cheerful makeup conceals a dark secret from his past. PAC’s Co-Founding Artistic Director Damon Bonetti directs an ensemble cast of familiar faces, who will perform their own circus skills with training from PSCA’s Circus Art / Movement Choreographer Terry Brennan.
