Grand Opening: Sushi by Boū Celebrates Disco with New Studio 54-Themed Restaurant

Sushi by Bou, the brand that has redefined the omakase experience, is bringing its one-of-a-kind concept to Philly’s vibrant Midtown Village with a new location at 1224 Chestnut St. This freshly renovated space offers 10 exclusive seats for their signature timed Omakase Experience, alongside booths and tables in the BouBar lounge. The modern-day speakeasy-inspired omakase is one of New York’s hottest and fastest-growing restaurant concepts, known across the country for taking over unique, offbeat, and underserved spaces as small as 200 square feet. Previous locations have included everything from the backroom of a coffee shop and florist to a hotel room, basement storage, and even a mop closet— and everything in between. For Midtown Village, SBB will take over the former secret music hideaway, Leda's Cocktail Lounge, including the main bar, lounge, and upstairs space. Sushi by Bou has transformed the venue into a Studio 54-inspired space, featuring a sparkling and seductive disco theme with velvet booths, a dazzling collection of mirror balls, and a black-and-white gallery of iconic moments from the legendary disco era. The Philadelphia Marketplace Returns to Dilworth Park in September

The Philadelphia Marketplace will once again return to Dilworth Park every Friday and Saturday, from Friday, September 6, 2024 through Saturday, October 5, 2024. In partnership with the Center City District, the Philadelphia Marketplace is a weekly, outdoor pop-up market that showcases a wide range of local merchants, craftsmen, designers and small businesses from Philadelphia and the greater tri-state area. Nestled amid Dilworth Park, this weekend event invites visitors to immerse themselves in a vibrant setting with up to 20 vendors. Each weekend offers a unique opportunity to explore a diverse array of distinctive arts and crafts with everything from handmade stuffed pals, modern artwork, candles and soaps, fragrances, clothing, coffee, handmade jewelry, body butters, exfoliants, hand sanitizers, lifestyle essentials, home goods, watches and more. Vendors will rotate throughout the month, with some being there every weekend, and others making a special appearance on select weekends.

Ourfest: America’s First Parade Dedicated to National Coming Out Day Returns to Philadelphia

Philly Pride 365: A Program of Galaei presents the second annual Philadelphia OURfest National Coming Out Parade and Festival/Resource Fair, the first National Coming Out Parade in the United States. OURfest stands for Our Uniting Resilience and these new events are being created to amplify the resilience of our people, our individual journeys in coming out, and how we hold and take up space everyday. OURfest: National Coming Out Parade will take place on Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, from 5th and Market to Broad and Locust. OURfest: National Coming Out Festival will take place on Sunday, October 13, 2024, from 12:00pm to 7:00pm, with resource fair and family zone from 12:00pm to 5:00pm, and last call for mobile bars/food trucks at 6:30pm.

Fashion District Partners with the School District of Philadelphia with Back-2-School Bus Tour & Giveaway

Fashion District Philadelphia is teaming up with The School District of Philadelphia to help Philadelphia families head back to school this fall. Celebrate back-to-school season as the School District's Back-2-School Bus Tour will make a special stop at The District on Friday, August 9, 2024, from 10:00am to 2:00pm. The two organizations will prepare Philly youth for a great school year with complimentary backpacks and school supplies (while supplies last), back-to-school information, no charge immunizations and physicals, education activities for kids, school registration, Parent Portal help, and of course fun games, treats and other surprises. The festivities will include a parade with the 76ers Drumline, The Sixers Stixers, music from @DJb_all, and a Fashion Show presented by Philly Fashion Week including a full contest for the kids to win great prizes. Businesses in The District will also offer specials, promotions and events during the event. Individuals and corporations looking to help set-up local families for success are encouraged to donate new backpacks and school supplies by dropping them off at Levi's (Level 2R). Chef Jose Garces Announces Grand Opening Of Buena Onda Rittenhouse As Part Of National Expansion

James Beard award-winner and Iron Chef Jose Garces announces the grand opening of Buena Onda in Rittenhouse Square on Friday, August 12th. The new location is located at 114 S. 20th Street, next to Chef's famed Village Whiskey. Buena Onda is Chef's famed taqueria that is inspired by the spirit and good vibes of Mexico's Baja Peninsula. The new Rittenhouse location features indoor and outdoor seating for 48 guests, Baja-inspired vibes, a new interior design, and a new Buena Onda marketplace. Buena Onda Rittenhouse represents not just a new restaurant and concept for Center City and Rittenhouse, but this is the first location to debut as part of a larger national expansion. Buena Onda will also open a location on the Main Line this September. Additionally, this location is one of the models for franchising of the Philly-born brand that will expand from Philadelphia to America. Each new location will offer Buena's signature dishes such as environmentally conscious seafood tacos, classic tacos, Buena bowls, nachos, guacamole, chips and salsa, rice and beans, churros and many other offerings. Chef Jose Garces Introduces Chef Dane DeMarco as Next Chef in Residency at Volvér

Chef Jose Garces announces Chef Dane DeMarco (they/them) as the next Chef in Residency at Volvér on Kimmel Cultural Campus. Chef DeMarco’s residency is timed to coincide with Philly Pride Month, starting June 15th and running through July 24th. Funding raised during this residency will provide start-up funds for DeMarco to open a brand new restaurant concept called Hanks Sandwich Co., which will offer different sandwiches inspired by international culinary traditions. DeMaro’s menu embraces a diverse range of creations such as Oxtail Terrine, Crab Corn Dog Galette, Cannoli Manicotti, Corner Fried Shrimp, Crab Corn Dog Galette, and Vanilla Krimpet. For the new Chefs in Residency Program, each Chef will showcase their top signature dishes on the Volvér menu for six to eight weeks, alongside Chef Garces' signature French-inspired dishes. Through a special donation program in partnership with the Garces Foundation, each Chef in Residency will have the opportunity to raise money to support their work with their current restaurant, or to use for the start of their next culinary journey. Volvér's hours for the season will be from Wednesday to Sunday, from 4:00pm to 9:00pm, with a special pre-theatre menu served from 4:00pm to 6:30pm, and happy hour from 7:30pm to 9:00pm. Philadelphia proudly celebrates June as Philly Gay Pride Month. We’ve compiled a list of 45 top ways to celebrate Gay Pride in our amazing city. While the pandemic pressed pause on events last year, Philly Gay Pride has never been stronger and more important. The pandemic has had a profoundly negative impact on our city’s LGBTQ community. Gay owned businesses were forced to shut down. Gay organizations and non-profits lost critical revenue for life-saving programs. The pandemic forced gay teens and college students into quarantine and isolation - losing the safety net of our city’s diverse and supportive larger community. Older gay seniors who sometimes already experience higher rates of social isolation were further isolated during months of prescribed social distancing and staying at home. The list continues as to how the pandemic specifically affected our gay and queer community - and it’s time to look ahead, come together and support one another. From Pride Days at Parks on Tap and Philadelphia Flower Show, to Pride Nights at Philadelphia Zoo and Concourse Dance Club, to LGBTQ Circus and Yoga workshops, to Pride Month events as part of Philly Beer Week, there is something for everyone this year.
