Chef Jose Garces Introduces Chef Dane DeMarco as Next Chef in Residency at Volvér

Chef Jose Garces announces Chef Dane DeMarco (they/them) as the next Chef in Residency at Volvér on Kimmel Cultural Campus. Chef DeMarco’s residency is timed to coincide with Philly Pride Month, starting June 15th and running through July 24th. Funding raised during this residency will provide start-up funds for DeMarco to open a brand new restaurant concept called Hanks Sandwich Co., which will offer different sandwiches inspired by international culinary traditions. DeMaro’s menu embraces a diverse range of creations such as Oxtail Terrine, Crab Corn Dog Galette, Cannoli Manicotti, Corner Fried Shrimp, Crab Corn Dog Galette, and Vanilla Krimpet. For the new Chefs in Residency Program, each Chef will showcase their top signature dishes on the Volvér menu for six to eight weeks, alongside Chef Garces' signature French-inspired dishes. Through a special donation program in partnership with the Garces Foundation, each Chef in Residency will have the opportunity to raise money to support their work with their current restaurant, or to use for the start of their next culinary journey. Volvér's hours for the season will be from Wednesday to Sunday, from 4:00pm to 9:00pm, with a special pre-theatre menu served from 4:00pm to 6:30pm, and happy hour from 7:30pm to 9:00pm. Prost! Brauhaus Schmitz presents Sommerfest Block Party and Summer Festival on South Street on Saturday, June 25th, from 11:00am to 7:00pm. The city's award-winning German restaurant will take over the entire 700 block of South Street for a full day of family fun that includes the region's largest Maypole, authentic German dancing, live music, flower crowns, face painting, schnapski tent, games and much more. Brauhaus will pop-up with the city's largest outdoor German Biergarten with seating and shade for 1,000 guests. From the kitchen, Chef Mason Nash will fire up currywurst, roast pork, bacon wurst, brats and pretzels. From the taps, look for 13 different beers pouring, including Kölsch to Hefeweizens, Pilsners, Kellerbiers and Spring Bocks. Harry's Ocean Bar and Grille (1025 Beach Ave) is firing up exciting changes in and out of the kitchen for summer of 2022. The ocean-side dining destination and sprawling ocean-side roofdeck, located directly next to The Montreal Beach Resort, is proud to introduce new ownership and a new top chef in the kitchen. As perhaps one of the longest family owned and operated businesses in Cape May, the Montreal Beach Resort and Harry’s Ocean Bar and Grille have finally changed hands after 56 years in business. The new owner is Madison Resorts, a locally owned hospitality management company headed by property operations veteran Dan Alicea, who has previously worked in the local market, as well as led the revitalization of two historic resorts on the east coast. Philadelphia proudly celebrates June as Philly Gay Pride Month. We’ve compiled a list of 45 top ways to celebrate Gay Pride in our amazing city. While the pandemic pressed pause on events last year, Philly Gay Pride has never been stronger and more important. The pandemic has had a profoundly negative impact on our city’s LGBTQ community. Gay owned businesses were forced to shut down. Gay organizations and non-profits lost critical revenue for life-saving programs. The pandemic forced gay teens and college students into quarantine and isolation - losing the safety net of our city’s diverse and supportive larger community. Older gay seniors who sometimes already experience higher rates of social isolation were further isolated during months of prescribed social distancing and staying at home. The list continues as to how the pandemic specifically affected our gay and queer community - and it’s time to look ahead, come together and support one another. From Pride Days at Parks on Tap and Philadelphia Flower Show, to Pride Nights at Philadelphia Zoo and Concourse Dance Club, to LGBTQ Circus and Yoga workshops, to Pride Month events as part of Philly Beer Week, there is something for everyone this year.

FCM Hospitality and Philadelphia Flyers Join Forces for Pride Month with Cocktails for a Cause

In celebration of Philly Gay Pride Month, FCM Hospitality teams p with the Philadelphia Flyers and Flyers Charities to raise money for four local LGBTQ+ organizations. Cocktails for a Cause will be featured at 11 different locations throughout the city including The Garden at Cherry Street Pier, The Dolphin, Morgan's Pier, Craft Hall, Parks on Tap, Rosy's Taco Bar, Harper's Garden, Lola's Garden, Concourse Dance Bar and Juno. Each property will offer a drink that matches a color of the all-inclusive LGBTQ rainbow flag with $1 from each rainbow drink going towards donations to William Way LGBT Community Center, Attic Youth Center, Philly Asian Queer, and Galaei. Throughout the month of June and as part of the ‘Cocktails for a Cause’ campaign, the Flyers will have their own specialty cocktail, the “Flyers Rowdy ‘Rita,” available exclusively at Liberty Point, with proceeds benefiting local LGBTQ+ organizations. As part of the month-long effort, Flyers Charities will match FCM’s $1 donation up to $10,000 for every Flyers Rowdy ‘Rita sold at Liberty Point during June. The Flyers Rowdy ‘Rita will be a spin on a mango margarita (tequila, triple sec, orange, mango lime) and will be sold at Liberty Point all month long. The first-ever Cocktails for a Cause Pride Party and Kick-Off event will take place on Thursday, June 9 at Liberty Point from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Philadelphia Flyers and Flyers Charities will be on hand with Gritty (6:00pm) and other fun surprises. This is the one and only event that will feature all 11 cocktails, plus Flyers' fun, DJ and other surprises.

Glu Hospitality and Temple Announce New Restaurant for Former Draught Horse

Glu Hospitality and Temple University are proud to announce a brand new modern grill and sports bar in the former home of The Draught Horse. The Peabody will make its grand debut this fall at 1431 Cecil B. Moore Avenue, on the west side of Broad Street. The 6,000 square foot space will have 40 seats at the bar and another 150 in the dining area. A large private dining space can hold 50 guests and be split into two for private parties. There will also be outdoor seating on Cecil B. Moore. The menu will feature American cuisine presented by Executive Chef Chino Chang with a wide variety of appetizers, sandwiches, salads, entrees and more. The drink menu will include signature and seasonal cocktails designed by Glu's award winning beverage team that is known for cocktails at Leda and the Swan, Vesper Center City and Figo. In addition to cocktails, look for ten draft lines pouring, plus bottles and cans, with craft beer, popular domestic selections, ciders, hard seltzers and more. The food and drink menus are designed to cater to students, faculty, family, alumni and neighbors. When opened, The Peabody will offer lunch, happy hour and dinner seven days a week, with weekend brunch service.

Free Toll Friday Returns to AC Expressway for Memorial Day Weekend Rush Hour

After a two-year pandemic hiatus, iconic Delaware Valley based restaurant group Chickie’s and Pete’s will kick-off summer by paying travelers tolls Memorial Day Weekend. Chickie’s and Pete’s will once again partner with the South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) and the Atlantic City Expressway for “Free Toll Friday." While gas prices and travel costs are on the rise, Chickie's and Pete's picks up the tab in one of the region's best summertime traditions. Chickie’s & Pete’s, home of world famous Crabfries®, will be paying tolls (cash and EZ Pass) for all drivers at the Eastbound Egg Harbor, New Jersey Toll Plaza Exit on Friday May 27th from 5pm to 6pm. Early that afternoon, from 12 noon to 5pm Chickie’s and Pete's will give away free orders of their world famous Crabfries® at the Farley Plaza from The Crabfries® Express Food Truck, plus host an outdoor celebration.

Parks on Tap Announces Return to Fairmount Water Works for Summer

Philadelphia’s famous beer garden that gives back to city parks announces its return for the summer season. Parks on Tap will start their extended stay outside of the historic Fairmount Water Works (640 Waterworks Drive) on Friday, May 20, 2022. For fans of the original traveling format, Parks on Tap will travel again starting August 31, 2022, hitting the road for five weeks highlighting five different Philadelphia parks. This hybrid model will offer the perfect blend of experiences for Philadelphia locals and tourists alike. When open, patrons will be able to enjoy sweeping riverfront views, fresh food, beers on tap, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages in a secure outdoor environment with comfortable chairs and clean restrooms. Parks on Tap is family (and fido) friendly. Season hours for Parks on Tap at the Water Works location will be Wednesday to Friday, from 5:00pm to 10:00pm, and Saturday and Sunday from Noon to 11:00pm, weather permitting. Parks on Tap at Water Works celebrates Juneteenth on Sunday, June 19th, plus there will be special hours on Monday, June 20th from 5:00pm to 10:00pm in honor of the official City holiday of Juneteenth, and Tuesday, June 21st from 5:00pm to 10:00pm. Pride at the Park: Pride Day at Parks on Tap returns Saturday, June 18th, from 12:00pm to 6:00pm. For 2022, all guests must sign-in prior to entry to access their free seasonal membership. Food and drink are pay-as-you-go. Seating is first come, first served.
