City of Hope Philadelphia Fights Women's Cancers with 5K Walk

One in three women will be diagnosed with cancer in her lifetime. On Saturday, September 13, 2014, this reality will unite survivors and supporters during the 17th annual Women’s Cancer Walk by City of Hope Philadelphia. Look for a parade of purple and listen for the outpouring of hope as walkers travel from Campbell’s Field  (401 Delaware Ave, Camden), across the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, to the Arch Street Meeting House (320 Arch St, Philadelphia). Registration starts at 8:00am, and the walk starts at 10:00am. Registration is $25 for adults and $15 for children at www.womenscancerwalk.org. Serrano Restaurant announces that Ranch Road Taco Shop will pop-up in the kitchen starting on Wednesday, July 16, 2014. Chef Meghan Carnevale will serve her authentic Mexican street food, including Blackened Catfish Tacos, Pomegranate Guacamole and Mexican street corn with ancho lime aioli and asiago cheese. The special menu will be paired with rotating bar specials that will include sangria, signature cocktails, boutique wines and craft beers. The pop-up will run from 5:00pm to Midnight, Wednesdays through Saturdays, through at least early August.

Restaurateur Donal McCoy announces the appointment of Matthew Daggett as new Executive Chef for Serrano Restaurant (20 S. 2nd Street) in Old City District.  Daggett most recently served as Chef de Cuisine at Devil’s Den. Daggett’s spring priorities will be collaborating with McCoy and new bar manager Shawn Gormley (former co-owner of PBR) on a new spring menu emphasizing local and seasonal ingredients, a bar menu to pair with Serrano’s craft cocktails, and a revamp of the menu for Tin Angel upstairs.  In the brief interim, Daggett is already cooking in the kitchen starting today with an interim menu that blends Daggett’s cooking styles and flavors with Serrano long-time favorite dishes. Inexpensive dishes will include award-winning burgers, traditional fish and chips, smothered steak sandwich, perogies, salads, soups and more.  Popular local bartender Danny McCloskey has been brought on board to serve up great conversation and a world-class assortment of bottled beer, draft beers and wines, and a splendid selection of Single Malt Scotches, Whiskies and Bourbon.  Rumor has it that lunch regulars may be privy to “secret” handcrafted cocktails only available during lunch service.  As always, beloved mascot John Deer will preside in seasonal garb.
