Port Richmond Celebrates 175th Anniversary

The neighborhood of Port Richmond is turning 175 years old! All of Philadelphia is invited to the official celebration. Port Richmond Neighborhood Association will host The Official Port Richmond 175th Anniversary Celebration and Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 26th, from 2:00pm to 6:00pm, at Cohocksink Recreation Center. PRNA and community volunteers have been hosting an anniversary celebration for the iconic neighborhood formally since 2020 and informally since 2015. This year, PRNA will host its largest celebration to date with a free outdoor community party that will include a Port Richmond-Opoly Monopoly Tournament, cake ceremony, egg hunt, senior of the year, live music, family fun, vendors, food and more. Special guests and appearances will include Philadelphia School of Circus Arts' Youth Troupe, Easter Bunny, Minnie Mouse, Michael Jackson impersonator, Pawlucy Tae Kwon Do, Polish American String Band, The 501st Legion, and more. The iconic Stocks' Bakery will be making and donating the official 175th Anniversary cake, with a piece of cake for the first 300 people. Councilman Mark Squilla will present PRNA and the neighborhood with a special City Council citation to celebrate the milestone. Lokal Artisan Foods and French Toast Bites will be on hand with Port Richmond-roasted coffee made with Bean 2 Bean. The Easter Egg Hunt kicks things off right at 2:00pm, with the cake and ceremony at 4:00pm. The celebration is free and open to the public. The rain date is set for Sunday, March 27th.

Curtains Up: Philly Theatre Week Returns From April 1 to 10 with Hundreds Events Around the Region

Theatre Philadelphia announces the return of Philly Theatre Week featuring hundreds of theatrical performances across the region between April 1-10, 2022. The ten day festival will showcase the talents of 64 organizations with 85 shows and events. This fifth annual celebration showcases the vibrant and diverse theatre scene in the tri-state region, while shedding a light on the theatre community’s resilience through the pandemic. Events include a variety of live and virtual performances and workshops, theatre-by-mail and chatroom, and exclusive ticket pre-sales, showcasing theatre across the Greater Philadelphia region with shows in Philadelphia, Delaware, South Jersey, Bucks County, and the Main Line and Western Suburbs. Philadelphia School of Circus Arts Announces Return of Summer Circus Camp in Mt. Airy

Philadelphia School of Circus Arts announces 2022 Summer Circus Camp June 20 - August 26, for students looking to run off to the region's big top. PSCA’s award-winning camp is back and has options for kids ages 4 -5 (Tots), 6 -7 (Junior), 8 – 12 (Youth) and 13 – 18 (Teen). Campers are divided into groups within each camp by age and experience level. No prior experience is needed for camp. Each session lasts one week and culminates in an immersive circus show presented to family and friends. Children will walk the wire, take to the air and juggle their creativity from 9:00am to 3:00pm at PSCA's beautiful circus campus (6452 Greene Street). Full-day (9am – 3pm) Tots, Junior, Youth and Teen camps cost $450 for each one-week session. Extended camp (3:00pm – 5:00pm) costs an additional $150 per week (not available for Tots).

Golden Girls Mystery Experience Makes Philadelphia Premiere at Craft Hall Starting March 5th

A Golden Girls Murder Mystery: The Curse of Jessica Fletcher will make its Philadelphia stage debut starting March 5th at Craft Hall, at 901 N. Delaware Avenue. Rose, Dorothy, Blanche and Sophia are back at it again, and this time the four friends from Miami are trying their hand at solving a mystery. Come out for whodunnit vibes mixed with tons of laughs during this unique immersive experience that even includes themed cocktails and food. Tickets are on sale now for $64 each and include the show, food and three cocktails per person. Additional cocktails and food are pay-as-you-go. The show will run from March to April, on select Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, with times on show nights at 6:00pm and 9:00pm. All on-sale dates and shows are on the website, with more dates to be added for middle to late April - and beyond.

Philly AIDS Thrift Announces Over $300,000 in New Grants to 27 Local Organizations

Philly AIDS Thrift is pleased to award $300,035 this spring to 27 organizations and programs focused on HIV prevention and care, as well as support for people living with HIV/AIDS in the Delaware Valley. Philadelphia's largest thrift store and non-profit organization has turned yesterday's treasures into $3,691,813 over the organization's 16 years to support Philadelphia regional organizations on the frontline of the HIV/AIDS crisis. This support is more important than ever as non-profits throughout Philadelphia and across the country have been challenged financially during the continued global pandemic. The annual grant program by Philly AIDS Thrift started back in 2014 as another way to serve the community, and it has continued even during the COVID crisis. The next request for grant proposals will take place towards the end of 2022.

SliCE and Steven Singer Jewelers Team Up for Valentine's with Heart-Shaped Pizzas and Gold-Dipped Roses

Two local small businesses are teaming up with the most unique Valentine's Day gifts in the region. Steven Singer Jewelers returns for Valentine's with their signature 24 kt. gold-dipped roses, including a new color with Emerald City Green. Singer is open at their location at 739 Walnut with special Valentine's Weekend hours. SliCE is also taking orders and delivering heart-shaped pizza grams now through Valentine's Day in Fishtown, Northern Liberties, Center City, South Philly, University City and Washington Township. Together, the two have joined forces and Singer is donating part of the proceeds from Valentine's gold-dipped rose sales to support SliCE and feed over 750 health heroes and frontline staff heart-shaped pizzas this week at both Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Pennsylvania Hospital. On Valentine's Day itself the two will again team up and three lucky heart gram recipients will find a special gold-dipped rose with their heart-shaped pizza.

Celebrate Year of Tiger with Chinese and Lunar New Year at Dim Sum House, The Fin and Hello Vietnam

Celebrate the Year of the Tiger with three Asian-owned businesses below celebrating Chinese New Year and/or Lunar New Year. Celebrations start as early as January 30 and run through mid-February. In University City and Rittenhouse, two of the largest Chinese restaurants, bars, lounges and event spaces in the city present a special menu of food and drink, plus two events with firecrackers, decorations and the traditional lion dance. Dim Sum House by Jane G's will celebrate starting January 30th through February 13th, with special events on February 5th. In Fishtown, The Fin celebrates its first-ever Lunar New Year and Lantern Festival on Valentine's Day Monday, February 14, 2022 with a special menu, an extensive list of special cocktails, a chance for prizes through the golden ticket cocktail, lanterns and decor and more. Chef Jose Garces announces Chef Jezabel Careaga as the next Chef in Residency at Volvér on Kimmel Cultural Campus. Chef Careaga's residency will run from January 26th to March 13th. Funding will help support the initiatives of Fuerza for Humans, a non-profit focusing on mental health for the restaurant community Currently, Careaga's menu will include Picada, Escabeche de Berejena Toast, Empanadas, Tamales Saltenos, Vacio con Papas Estrelladas, Estofado, Locro, Queso y Membrillo and Panqueque Con Dulce De Leche.
