Azuka Theatre Presents The World Premiere Of Ship With Philadelphia Playwright

Azuka Theatre continues to foster new works by local Philadelphia playwrights with the world premiere of Ship by Douglas Williams. Following a critically acclaimed and sold out run of Sunset Baby by Dominique Morriseau, Azuka continues their 2019-2020 season with the New Professionals Production of Ship from February 26 to March 15, 2020, presented at The Proscenium Theatre at The Drake (302 Hicks Street, Philadelphia). In Ship, audiences find Nell fresh out of rehab and returning to her hometown of Mystic, CT with two goals: track down her former classmate who tried and failed to grow the longest fingernails in the world, and be promoted to the most high profile job in town: tour guide at the Seaport. With the help and hindrance of her older sister, Nell grabs at her chance for hometown glory – but it’s not as easy as it looks.

Philadelphia Theatre Company Presents The Premiere Of Everything Is Wonderful

Philadelphia Theatre Company continues its 45th Anniversary season with a perceptive drama about forgiveness set in Amish Country in Pennsylvania. PTC is thrilled to begin the year with the Philadelphia Premiere of Chelsea Marcantel’s The Kilroys List Honorable Mention pick, Everything is Wonderful. Directed by Noah Himmelstein, who directed this play at the Everyman Theatre in Baltimore last year, this beautiful new work about a nearby community runs February 14-March 8, 2020. Philadelphia Theatre Company Announces New Season with Sweat, Bridges of Madison County and How to Catch Creation

Philadelphia Theatre Company is ready to take off into the future. The company announced its first produced season under its new leadership team, Producing Artistic Director Paige Price and Managing Director Emily Zeck, to an audience in the theatre’s space in the Suzanne Roberts Theatre, 480 S. Broad St. PTC announced that this inaugural season under new leadership includes a Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Lynn Nottage that takes place in Pennsylvania, a World Premiere from the 2017 Kilroys List, and a TONY-winning Jason Robert Brown musical set in the Midwest during the 60s based on a popular bestselling novel. The theatre also announced the return of a wildly popular show for its youngest audiences. Azuka Theatre Kicks off 2017-2018 Season with World Premiere of The Gap by Emma Goidel

Azuka Theatre kicks off their 18th season with the world premiere of The Gap by Emma Goidel. Rebecca Wright directs this dark comedy and mystery that centers around family secrets, performing, and sisterhood. Audiences will ask themselves, what's ultimately worse: forgetting or remembering? Presented in the Louis Bluver Theatre at The Drake, The Gap previews begin Wednesday, November 1, opens on Saturday, November 4 and runs through November 19, 2017. After a sold-out run for Lost Girls, Theatre Exile closes their 20th anniversary season with Buzzer by Tracey Scott Wilson. Gentrification comes to a head as the thought-provoking social drama fans the flames of love, race, class and privilege. This Philadelphia premiere explores the effects of a changing neighborhood on three 20-somethings that share a long and winding history -- and a not-so-certain future. Buzzer is directed by Exile’s Associate Artistic Director Matt Pfeiffer and features Akeem Davis, Alex Keiper, Matteo Scammell. Following five Barrymore wins, Theatre Exile continues their 20th anniversary season with Lost Girls by John Pollono. This hard-hitting drama is the story of three generations of women struggling to rise above their limited prospects, in a world indifferent to their struggles, to prevent history from repeating itself. The show is directed by Exile’s Founding Artistic Director Joe Canuso and features an ensemble cast with Catharine Slusar, Trevor William Fayle, Sean Bradley, Molly Ward, Amy Frear and Susanne Collins. Philadelphia Artists' Collective Presents Philadelphia Premiere of The Captive During Fringe Festival

Fresh off of four Barrymore Award nominations, Philadelphia Artists’ Collective returns with The Captive by Edouard Bourdet, from September 1 through 20, 2015, during the 2015 Philadelphia Fringe Festival. This well-mannered tragedy will tackle issues of sex, domesticity and class manners. Deeply controversial in its time, productions of this 1926 play were censored, and its producers and actors jailed.The Captive will be produced inside Society Hill’s Physick House at 321 S. 4th Street. The historic townhouse in fact will be the perfect co-conspirator as the secrets and heated private moments unfold. The PAC co-founder Dan Hodge directs the talented cast led by well-known Rachel Brodeur and newcomer Chase Byrd.

The Captive starts previews on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 and opens on Thursday, September 3, 2015. The show runs for a total of 14 performances through Sunday, September 20, 2015. Inis Nua Theatre Company Brings Philadelphia Premiere of Penelope to Prince Music Theater

Spring will be sprung (loose) when Inis Nua Theatre Company presents Penelope by Enda Walsh at the Prince Music Theater (1412 Chestnut Street). This dark comedy takes us into the world of Homer’s The Odyssey by the back door, or maybe it’s a trap door, as we fall into a part of the story that’s never been told before. Penelope awaits the return of her husband, Odysseus, from the Trojan war. Four suitors are locked in a do-or-die competition to win her love at a barbecue unlike any you have ever seen. Will the great warrior return and slay his rivals, or will one of these self-proclaimed poets convince her to turn to a new love?

Guts and glory storm the stage in full leather boots in this sweeping adventure tale of sublime silliness. Join us for dashing heroes, treacherous villains, plucky heroines and love on the high seas!

This English Renaissance comedy, dating back to 1631, uproots traditional gender roles of the early Modern Period as a barmaid with a heart of gold wields a sword, outwits her enemies, and becomes a pirate queen.

Charlotte Northeast directs a stellar cast lead by Barrymore Award winner Rachel Camp as Bess, the Fair Maid of the West who will stop at nothing to be with Adam Altman's Spencer. There's love, danger and enough buffoonery to warm any heart.
