Theatre Philadelphia Celebrates the Delaware Valley's Thriving Theatre Scene with Return of the 2018 Barrymore Awards and Celebration

Theatre Philadelphia proudly announces the 2018 nominees for the Barrymore Award for Excellence in Theatre. Celebrating the rich, diverse professional theatre scene in the Greater Philadelphia region, the Barrymore Ceremony will be held on Monday, November 5, 2018 at 7:00pm at the Bok Building at 1901 S. 9th Street in South Philadelphia. Guests will continue the festivities with an after-party Celebration at the same location. Tickets for artists, supporters, and the general public start at $50 and are now on sale at www.theatrephiladelphia.org.

Inis Nua Theatre Company Presents American Premiere Of Swallow By Stef Smith April 26 To May 14, 2017

Inis Nua Theatre Company ends the 2016-2017 mainstage season with the American premiere of Swallow by Stef Smith. From Scotland, Swallow follows three lives intricately connected and the quiet, traumatic struggles of being human. Swallow was a 2015 Fringe First Winner and received the Scottish Arts Club Theatre Award. The Scotsman called the play, “An elegant and glowing piece of twenty-first century magic realism.” Swallow opens at the Proscenium Theater at The Drake (302 South Hicks Street) on April 28th, with preview performances on April 26th and 27th.

Azuka Theatre Continues Sold Out Season With World Premiere Of Sh_theads By Philadelphia Playwright, Douglas Williams

Following a record, at-capacity run of How We Got On, Azuka Theatre continues their 2016-2017 “pay what you decide” season with the world premiere of Sh_theads. Developed in partnership with PlayPenn, playwright Douglas Williams and director Kevin Glaccum examine a down-and-out bike shop in lower Manhattan and the lives of the people who love to work there. Stuck between facing their own arrogance and bankruptcy, this group of scrappy cyclists fight to save the only home they’ve ever known - their bike shop.

Theatre Exile Presents The Philadelphia Premiere Of Lost Girls By John Pollono This February

Following five Barrymore wins, Theatre Exile continues their 20th anniversary season with Lost Girls by John Pollono. This hard-hitting drama is the story of three generations of women struggling to rise above their limited prospects, in a world indifferent to their struggles, to prevent history from repeating itself. The show is directed by Exile’s Founding Artistic Director Joe Canuso and features an ensemble cast with Catharine Slusar, Trevor William Fayle, Sean Bradley, Molly Ward, Amy Frear and Susanne Collins. The show is presented with support from Honorary Producer Louis Bluver and Season Sponsor Zallie's ShopRite Supermarkets.

Theatre Exile Presents World Premiere of RIZZO by Bruce Graham from October 15 to November 8, 2015

Theatre Exile begins their 19th season by searching for the moral center with the world premiere of Rizzo, by award-winning playwright and South Philadelphia resident Bruce Graham. Based on “Rizzo: The Last Big Man in Big City America” by Sal Paolantonio (published by Camino Books, Inc.), Rizzo brings one of the most divisive figures in Philadelphia’s history to the stage October 15 through November 8, 2015 (opening night October 21) at Christ Church Neighborhood House (20 N American Street). Founding Artistic Director Joe Canuso will direct, with Barrymore Award-winning actor Scott Greer playing the role of Rizzo. BRAT Productions Kicks Off 20th Season with World Premiere of The Lid During the Philadelphia Fringe Festival

BRAT Productions, Philadelphia’s go-to source for rock 'n roll and theater hybrid performance events, kicks off their 20th season by producing The Lid during the 2015 Fringe Festival. This world premiere theatrical rock opera, written by emerging Philadelphia singer songwriter Pat Finnerty, features 14 originally penned British invasion songs. What’s underneath the lid? Will it change our mundane existence or be more of the same old same old?
