Port Richmond Celebrates 175th Anniversary

The neighborhood of Port Richmond is turning 175 years old! All of Philadelphia is invited to the official celebration. Port Richmond Neighborhood Association will host The Official Port Richmond 175th Anniversary Celebration and Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 26th, from 2:00pm to 6:00pm, at Cohocksink Recreation Center. PRNA and community volunteers have been hosting an anniversary celebration for the iconic neighborhood formally since 2020 and informally since 2015. This year, PRNA will host its largest celebration to date with a free outdoor community party that will include a Port Richmond-Opoly Monopoly Tournament, cake ceremony, egg hunt, senior of the year, live music, family fun, vendors, food and more. Special guests and appearances will include Philadelphia School of Circus Arts' Youth Troupe, Easter Bunny, Minnie Mouse, Michael Jackson impersonator, Pawlucy Tae Kwon Do, Polish American String Band, The 501st Legion, and more. The iconic Stocks' Bakery will be making and donating the official 175th Anniversary cake, with a piece of cake for the first 300 people. Councilman Mark Squilla will present PRNA and the neighborhood with a special City Council citation to celebrate the milestone. Lokal Artisan Foods and French Toast Bites will be on hand with Port Richmond-roasted coffee made with Bean 2 Bean. The Easter Egg Hunt kicks things off right at 2:00pm, with the cake and ceremony at 4:00pm. The celebration is free and open to the public. The rain date is set for Sunday, March 27th.

Chef Jose Garces Introduces Chef Jennifer Zavala of Juana Tamale as Next Chef in Residency at Volver

Chef Jose Garces announces Chef Jennifer Zavala as the next Chef in Residency at Volvér on Kimmel Cultural Campus. Chef Zavala's residency will run from March 16 to May 1, 2022. Funding will help city programs benefiting black and brown youth; with a strong focus on access to resources for our communities dealing with gun violence. Currently, Zavala's menu will include Bunuelos y Caviar, Ceviche Verduras, Mexican Broccoli Tortita, Ensalada de Chickpeas, Bacalao y Tamal, Chile Relleno Nueces, “Friendship” Tacos, Mosaic Jello Terrine, and Corn & Honey Sundae. For the new Chefs in Residency Program, each Chef will showcase their top signature dishes on the Volvér menu for four to eight weeks, alongside Chef Garces' signature French-inspired dishes. Through a special donation program in partnership with the Garces Foundation, each Chef in Residency will have the opportunity to raise money to support their work with their current restaurant, or to use for the start of their next culinary journey. Volvér's hours for the season will be from Wednesday to Sunday, from 4:00pm to 9:00pm, with a special pre-theatre menu served from 4:00pm to 6:30pm, and happy hour from 7:30pm to 9:00pm. Philadelphia School of Circus Arts announces 2022 Summer Circus Camp June 20 - August 26, for students looking to run off to the region's big top. PSCA’s award-winning camp is back and has options for kids ages 4 -5 (Tots), 6 -7 (Junior), 8 – 12 (Youth) and 13 – 18 (Teen). Campers are divided into groups within each camp by age and experience level. No prior experience is needed for camp. Each session lasts one week and culminates in an immersive circus show presented to family and friends. Children will walk the wire, take to the air and juggle their creativity from 9:00am to 3:00pm at PSCA's beautiful circus campus (6452 Greene Street). Full-day (9am – 3pm) Tots, Junior, Youth and Teen camps cost $450 for each one-week session. Extended camp (3:00pm – 5:00pm) costs an additional $150 per week (not available for Tots).

Philly AIDS Thrift is pleased to award $300,035 this spring to 27 organizations and programs focused on HIV prevention and care, as well as support for people living with HIV/AIDS in the Delaware Valley. Philadelphia's largest thrift store and non-profit organization has turned yesterday's treasures into $3,691,813 over the organization's 16 years to support Philadelphia regional organizations on the frontline of the HIV/AIDS crisis. This support is more important than ever as non-profits throughout Philadelphia and across the country have been challenged financially during the continued global pandemic. The annual grant program by Philly AIDS Thrift started back in 2014 as another way to serve the community, and it has continued even during the COVID crisis. The next request for grant proposals will take place towards the end of 2022.
