Philadelphia Zoo Invites Public to Help Choose Name for Sloth Bear Cub

Philadelphia Zoo announced today it is enlisting the help of the public to choose a name for its new sloth bear cub. Selecting from a list of names developed by the cub’s keepers, voters can pick their favorite name for the infant. Born on December 11th, the cub is doing well, growing rapidly, and has become quite adventurous since its outdoor debut in March, shared via Philly Zoo at 2- the Zoo’s new Facebook series. Voting begins on Thursday, April 16th at 3:00pm and will go through Thursday, April 23rd at 11:59pm.

Theatre Philadelphia launches $145,000 Emergency Relief Program for Theatre Workers

Theatre Philadelphia, the region’s theatre marketing and leadership organization, announces Theatre Philadelphia Emergency Relief as a response to the needs of the region’s theatre workers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting with a pool of $145,000, Theatre Philadelphia will award micro-grants of $300 on a first-come-first-serve basis to theatre workers impacted by COVID-19 closures and cancellations. Eligible applicants should live within a 35-mile radius of Philadelphia’s City Hall and work in any creative, technical, service, or administrative capacity in theatre. Applications open on Monday, April 13th.

The Philadelphia and Fishtown-based brewer announces the debut of a Tiger King inspired pale ale that pays homage to one of the biggest cultural phenomenons sweeping the nation. Felt Cute, Might Feed My Husband to a Tiger Later IDK is a special edition pale ale 4.2% abv. that is available in growlers through carry-out at the Evil Genius Beer Company Lab at 1727 Front Street. Starting today, Evil Genius also will partner with Quick Sip beer delivery service to expand access to their beer and seltzer to across the city. Quick Sip delivery will mean that to get the new Felt Cute brew you only have to travel from your couch to the front door.

Philly Theatre Week Returns with 10 Day Festival with 300 Performances

Theatre Philadelphia proudly announces the return of Philly Theatre Week with 75+ organizations, and 300 events and performances between February 6 to 16, 2020. This 3rd annual 10-day celebration will showcase the vibrant and diverse theatre scene in the tri-state region, and help make theatre even more accessible to the community. Events will include full performances, workshops, panels and more in Philadelphia and suburbs, plus in New Jersey and Delaware. All tickets for participating shows are free, $15 or $30.

Grand Opening: Philly's First Wine Dive Bar to Open on South Street

Owners Chris Fetfatzes & Heather Annechiarico announce the grand opening of Wine Dive this Friday, January 10, 2020 at 11:00am at 1506 South Street, Philadelphia, PA. Wine Dive extends the husband and wife duo's footprint on South Street, where they own the newly renovated Cambridge next door and Tio Flores a block away. The couple also own Hawthornes Beer Cafe and Quick Sip - and they are busy preparing their next bar and restaurant to open this spring. With this fifth concept, Wine Dive brings Philadelphia's its first wine-focused dive bar and exclusive wine bottle shop. The 2,500 square space features a seventeen foot bar, seating for up to 50, one of Philly's most instagram-worthy bathrooms, Vegas 70s decor, 20 wines by the glass, 215 wines by the bottle, 50 selections of natural wine, 45 beers by the can and bottle, and 20 selections of cider and hard soda/ seltzer.

Wonderspaces Expands to East Coast with Grand Opening at Philadelphia Fashion District

Wonderspaces, an experiential, interactive arts venue, announces the grand opening of its largest location to date, right here in Philadelphia at the Fashion District. Building on the success of annual pop-up shows in San Diego, and its first permanent location in Scottsdale, AZ, Wonderspaces will open a 24,000 square foot new gallery space in late-January. This inaugural lineup features fourteen experiential and participatory art installations from artists from around the world, with each work focusing on the theme of perspective. Wonderspaces unique art experiences will find a welcome home in the new shopping concept that blends together entertainment and art, and features an existing $1 million in commissioned artwork.

Christmas Village in Baltimore is ready to transform West Shore Park (501 Light Street) into a traditional indoor and outdoor German Christmas Market. For the new holiday season, this annual Baltimore tradition will open early with a preview weekend on Saturday, November 23 and Sunday, November 24, 2019. Christmas Village will then open regular hours for the season starting on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28th through Christmas Eve, Tuesday, December 24th. During the preview, visitors are invited to catch a first glimpse at the remodeled and expanded layout, with a new expanded open floor plan for the stage, added decorations and space for the Christmas Village Beer Garden, a grand new centerpiece in the middle of the wooden shopping huts, an expanded outdoor food and drink area, a new kids’ corner, and the addition of a second circle of wooden shopping huts. The 65 feet tall Christmas Village Ferris Wheel will again return to right next to the Visitor Center.

Sofitel Philadelphia at Rittenhouse Square, part of AccorHotels, will celebrate June as Gay Pride Month with a series of new events and initiatives, including turning the hotel lobby into the Pride Month “LGBTQ Hall of Flags.” For the first time ever, Sofitel will fly a giant Philadelphia Pride Flag on the outside of the hotel. Inside, look for the flag to be joined by six individual LGBTQ flags flying high above the lobby to celebrate the diversity of the hotel’s community.
