Grand Opening: Dim Sum House Debuts XI West Wedding and Events Venue in University City

Dim Sum House owners Jane Guo and Jackson Fu announce the grand opening of Xi West Weddings and Private Events at 3939 Chestnut Street, 1st Floor. The mother-son duo are thrilled to debut the city's new Asian and female-owned wedding and special events venue and catering facility where they can now host wedding receptions, micro-weddings, rehearsal dinners, bridal showers, baby showers, large group dining, private parties, corporate events and food festivals for up to 350 people. The stunning 6,000 square foot space cost over one million dollars for renovations and took four years to complete, after a two year delay during the pandemic. For event planners and couples, the space brings together modern industrial chic design, an exciting cocktail program and robust coffee service with traditional Chinese menus that range from dim sum offerings to signature rice, noodle dishes and seafood dishes. For higher end weddings seeking something extra special, the menu can include delicacies like Norwegian King Crab three ways. The space has a sleek and modern bar, lounge and cocktail space in the front on Chestnut Street on ground level, with a ballroom and event space through the larger doors, followed by a bridal room and oversized bathrooms. The mother and son duo will bring the city's largest dim sum restaurant, bar and lounge to the hottest and fastest growing area of the city, between the bustling Fishtown and Northern Liberties neighborhoods. The new restaurant will feature 6,000 feet of indoor space with seating for around 100+ guests, with the final numbers still in the works. For the first time ever, Dim Sum House will head outdoors with a stunning new covered dim sum and cocktail garden that will seat around 100+ guests and 3,000 square feet of space. The indoor and outdoor space combined make this the largest Dim Sum House restaurant to date. From the kitchen, guests will enjoy a menu that focuses on two authentic styles of Chinese dim sum (Shanghai and Cantonese), plus fried rice, noodles, chef specialties and familiar Chinese favorites from the Jiang Nan region of China. Notable favorites include Dim Sum House’s celebrated Pork Soup Dumplings, Dan Dan Noodles, Roast Pork Bao, Peking Duck, Pork Belly & Mustard Greens, Hot and Sour Soup, and Norwegian Whole King Crab done three ways. The menu will feature ample vegan, vegetarian and gluten free offerings. At the bar, look for a full line of spirits, 8 wines by the glass, over 35+ wines by the bottle and 8 cocktails (all inspired by awesome old school kung fu/martial arts movies). This location will have the largest selection of beers for any Dim Sum House location with eight on tap and around two dozen in total. The neighborhood of Port Richmond is turning 175 years old! All of Philadelphia is invited to the official celebration. Port Richmond Neighborhood Association will host The Official Port Richmond 175th Anniversary Celebration and Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 26th, from 2:00pm to 6:00pm, at Cohocksink Recreation Center. PRNA and community volunteers have been hosting an anniversary celebration for the iconic neighborhood formally since 2020 and informally since 2015. This year, PRNA will host its largest celebration to date with a free outdoor community party that will include a Port Richmond-Opoly Monopoly Tournament, cake ceremony, egg hunt, senior of the year, live music, family fun, vendors, food and more. Special guests and appearances will include Philadelphia School of Circus Arts' Youth Troupe, Easter Bunny, Minnie Mouse, Michael Jackson impersonator, Pawlucy Tae Kwon Do, Polish American String Band, The 501st Legion, and more. The iconic Stocks' Bakery will be making and donating the official 175th Anniversary cake, with a piece of cake for the first 300 people. Chef Jose Garces announces Chef Jennifer Zavala as the next Chef in Residency at Volvér on Kimmel Cultural Campus. Chef Zavala's residency will run from March 16 to May 1, 2022. Funding will help city programs benefiting black and brown youth; with a strong focus on access to resources for our communities dealing with gun violence. Currently, Zavala's menu will include Bunuelos y Caviar, Ceviche Verduras, Mexican Broccoli Tortita, Ensalada de Chickpeas, Bacalao y Tamal, Chile Relleno Nueces, “Friendship” Tacos, Mosaic Jello Terrine, and Corn & Honey Sundae. For the new Chefs in Residency Program, each Chef will showcase their top signature dishes on the Volvér menu for four to eight weeks, alongside Chef Garces' signature French-inspired dishes. Through a special donation program in partnership with the Garces Foundation, each Chef in Residency will have the opportunity to raise money to support their work with their current restaurant, or to use for the start of their next culinary journey. Volvér's hours for the season will be from Wednesday to Sunday, from 4:00pm to 9:00pm, with a special pre-theatre menu served from 4:00pm to 6:30pm, and happy hour from 7:30pm to 9:00pm.
