New exhibits open officially on September 24, 2021
Wonderspaces, 27 N 11th St, Philadelphia, PA 19107
https://philadelphia.wonderspaces.com/
Full release with quotes, bios, ticket information, more photos, etc coming in mid-September.
Wonderspaces Philadelphia announces the debut of two new installations coming to the Philadelphia Fashion District just in time for fall. Starting Friday, September 24, 2021, Wonderspaces welcomes Matthew Matthew’s On a Human Scale and Candy Chang’s Before I Die. On a Human Scale is a project which unites voices and faces of the world through technology. The project started as an experiment, by filming everyday New Yorkers singing. The individual voices are woven into an interactive instrument which visitors are invited to play, bringing the immersive audio-visual installation to life. Before I Die is a global participatory public art project that reimagines our relationship with death and with one another in the public realm. Originally created by artist Candy Chang in New Orleans after the death of a loved one, the artwork invites people to reflect and share their personal aspirations in public. Through the activation of public spaces around the world, Taiwanese-American artist Candy Chang creates rituals that uncover the complexity of our inner lives. Her practice includes participatory installations of anonymous, handwritten reflections, as well as reproductions of these reflections through video and mixed media. The Atlantic called it, “one of the most creative community projects ever,” and after receiving requests from people around the world who wanted to make a wall with their community, Chang made online resources for residents to create their own. Over 5,000 Before I Die installations have now been created by communities in over 75 countries, including Iraq, China, Brazil, Kazakhstan, and South Africa. Chang’s 2012 TED talk about Before I Die has been viewed over five million times and translated into over 40 languages.
New fall hours for these and continuing art installations are: Wednesday to Friday, 12:00pm Noon to 10:00pm, Saturday, 10:00am to 10:00pm and Sunday, 10:00am to 8:00pm. Wonderspaces is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Tickets for timed slots are on sale at philadelphia.wonderspaces.com/. BRT brings one of the most uproarious musical comedies to hit stages to Bucks County -- the sidesplitting and zany Murder for Two. It’s a whodunit for two actors, one playing the detective, the other playing all thirteen suspects, and both of them taking turns accompanying each other at the piano. It’s Agatha Christie meets Vaudeville and will be an event not to miss. “Murder for Two is hilariously good fun,” said BRT Co-Producing Director Ken Kaissar. ”It’s just hilarious to watch these two guys try to hold it together playing some 14 parts, plus the piano, throughout a whodunnit murder mystery. It’s full of surprises and laughs. We picked it way before the pandemic and we’re even more excited now that it’s kicking off the season because what could be better for our first show back than a riotous evening?”

302 S Hicks St, Philadelphia, PA 19102
https://inisnuatheatre.org/show/holy-show
The season begins with the American premiere of A HOLY SHOW by up-and-coming Irish playwright Janet Moran. The Irish phrase “a holy show” means to embarrass or make a spectacle of oneself, the perfect title for this whirlwind comedy based on the true story of a disgraced Australian monk who hijacked a passenger jet using nothing but holy water. A HOLY SHOW takes place in 1981 as Aer Lingus flight 164 to London is about to board. We meet passengers like Tina and Joe who are on their honeymoon, Bun who is off to meet her new granddaughter, Mary who is nervously flying for the first time, and Downey who is on a mission to learn the Third Secret of Fatima at any cost! Two actors play twenty characters in this “lovingly made, giddily nostalgic comedy” (The Irish Times.) The production will be directed by Barrymore Award-nominated director and Inis Nua Founder and Artistic Director Tom Reing. For this production, all patrons are asked to be vaccinated and show proof of vaccination.

Four Detroit auto workers panic as rumors that their factory is closing circulate through the tight-knit work community. With their futures unknown, each of the workers must make difficult choices about loyalty to each other, the company, and themselves. Join BRT for MacArthur Foundation “Genius Grant” recipient, Dominique Morisseau’s play, Skeleton Crew. “Skeleton Crew is one of the best plays written in the last decade” said Amy Kaissar. “It’s a brilliant script that encompasses so much of what was, and is, happening as our country and economy changes. It’s a story about pressures between what’s right for each of us as individuals vs. what’s right for us as a community and what happens when the circumstances that underlie the promises we were given changes. While it’s set in Detroit, it has tremendous relevance for our community in Bristol.” For this production, and at this time, all patrons are asked to be vaccinated and show proof of vaccination.

Philadelphia Theatre Company returns to the stage for the 2021/2022 season, starting with The Garbologists by Lindsay Joelle. He’s a white, blue-collar mansplainer hiding a heart of gold. She’s the Black, Ivy League-educated newbie who just joined his route. Thrown together in a 19-ton garbage truck, they’re forced to find their own steady rhythm. Along their route, pre-coffee bickering gives way to a reluctant bond over the broken, beautiful things we discard. As their lives become increasingly entwined, these two essential workers from different worlds discover there’s more that binds them than taking out the trash. Full season information, ticket dates and subscriber info is coming soon - stay tuned after Labor Day. For this production, all patrons are asked to be vaccinated and show proof of vaccination.

We love the album and it’s getting a lot of great hype! Also, performing to support a new record out on Pirates Press is Suzi Moon! The first press of the album “Call the shots” moved off the shelves fast! It’s not a party if Fire favorites Stolen Wheelchairs are missing from the lineup! Great music, great people, and guaranteed energy from these guys. Finally, the latest addition to round out the lineup is English Teeth. What do you get when you put together a band with members from Cheap Sex, Legion 76, Thunder and Glory, Oi the boat, and ex-LCB? This diverse lineup is going to bring us something fresh and unique.
