2nd Annual Philly Black Wine Fest Celebrates Region's Black Wine Community at Penn Museum

Get ready to raise a glass of red, white and rose to celebrate Greater Philadelphia's Black wine community! The 2nd Annual Philly Black Wine Festival powered by Kabila Events returns on Saturday, September 14th, from 6:30pm to 11:30pm. Following the event's sold out debut in 2023, the event is back bigger in year two with a new location at the Penn Museum (3260 South Street), in University City. Formerly known as The University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, the museum will provide the perfect backdrop to the event with its riches of historic and diverse artwork and famed collections. The event itself will feature 20+ Black and minority owned businesses, featuring wine tastings, product samples, live music, art showcases, fashion, entertainment, food and drink vendors, and interactive experiences. This year's festival theme is Eden Noir, with fly and fashionable dress strongly recommended in white, green, blue, purple, animal print and/or floral.

Freshwater Mussels Make a Comeback on the Delaware River

There’s been an exciting development for the Delaware River in Philadelphia – freshwater mussels have been found! In a survey recently conducted by the Discovery Center, Aquatic Research and Restoration Center (ARRC), Audubon Mid-Atlantic, Pennypack Environmental Center, and Riverfront North Partnership (RNP) there is confirmation that these helpful bivalves have been found near Pennypack Creek. Freshwater mussels have been scarce along the Delaware River due to multiple stressors. With the help of the 1972 Clean Water Act, community science, and multiple local science organizations, this marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to restore the Delaware River Watershed.

 Philadelphia Zoo is thrilled to celebrate the public debut of its critically endangered Sumatran orangutan baby. The animal team has determined the baby is a boy and have named him Jambi after a city on the island of Sumatra where this species is native. Born to the Zoo’s 31-year-old female Tua and 28-year-old male, Sugi, on June 26, the infant continues to look strong, and Tua continues to be an excellent mother, nursing and holding the baby at all times.

Celebrate back-to-school season as the School District's Back-2-School Bus Tour will make a special stop at The District on Friday, August 9, 2024, from 10:00am to 2:00pm. The two organizations will prepare Philly youth for a great school year with complimentary backpacks and school supplies (while supplies last), back-to-school information, no charge immunizations and physicals, education activities for kids, school registration, Parent Portal help, and of course fun games, treats and other surprises. Philly Pride 365: A Program of Galaei invites the entire LGBTQ+ to celebrate Pride 2024: Be You at the Philadelphia Pride March and Festival on Sunday, June 2, 2024.  This year's theme is inspired by the 55th anniversary of Stonewall. After 55 years of struggle, striving, progress, and overcoming, Philly Pride 365 a program of Galaei encourages the LGBTQ+ community to come out, celebrate, and “BE YOU” on June 2nd 2024, and throughout the year!  The Pride March will form and organize at 6th and Walnut at 10:30am and end in the Philadelphia Gayborhood. Watch for the largest rainbow pride flag in America, this year expanded to 400 feet long. All LGBTQ communities and allies are welcome to join the march, with no registration required. Floats and vehicles are not permitted. When the march reaches the Gayborhood, the festival will begin, running from 12:00pm to 7:00pm, on Walnut to Pine streets, and Quince to Juniper streets, with other select roads closed around the festival footprint. The festival will feature over 200 small businesses and organizations, performers, entertainers, artists, vendors, local bars, food trucks, community organizations, stages and much more. The march and festival is open to all to attend with no admission - and all food and drink are pay-as-you-go. Philadelphia Pride March and Festival are a proud part of Philly Gay Pride Month.

Philadelphia Zoo and Craft Hospitality Announce Philly Wine Fest 2024

Philadelphia Zoo is partnering with Craft Hospitality to bring a fabulous selection of wines to the Zoo for Philly Wine Fest: Spring Edition on Saturday, May 18. More than two dozen wineries will be pouring a wide selection of specially curated seasonal reds, whites, rosés and more. The event will take place on the Zoo’s Impala Lawn with live entertainment performing throughout the day on Impala Stage. Guests are invited to choose from two sessions, 1:00-3:00pm or 4:30-6:30pm, with Early Access options available for admission an hour before the rest of the crowd. This adults-only event is limited to those 21 or older with valid identification. Tickets to the Philly Wine Fest also grant attendees complimentary access to visit the Philadelphia Zoo any time prior to their Philly Wine Fest session time.
