Sugar Stress Relief with Free Cookies at Your Door: 5 Local Businesses Partner Up

Insomnia Cookies announces a brand-new partnership with local restaurants and small businesses to join forces during this time of crisis for the restaurant industry. Insomnia Cookies dishes up the cookie magic by proudly teaming up with Quick Sip Beer Delivery (by Hawthorne's Beer Cafe), SliCE Fishtown, P'unk Burger and Dim Sum House University City to supply free cookies with delivery orders starting today. This week, the first 25 orders a day will find free Insomnia Cookies with their beer and wine delivery through Quick Sip. Next week, free cookies will arrive with the first 25 pizza and food orders per day from SliCE Fishtown. The following week, the first 25 customers a day will find a sweet ending in free cookies with their dim sum order from Dim Sum House University City. Philadelphia Zoo Invites Public to Help Choose Name for Sloth Bear Cub

Philadelphia Zoo announced today it is enlisting the help of the public to choose a name for its new sloth bear cub. Selecting from a list of names developed by the cub’s keepers, voters can pick their favorite name for the infant. Born on December 11th, the cub is doing well, growing rapidly, and has become quite adventurous since its outdoor debut in March, shared via Philly Zoo at 2- the Zoo’s new Facebook series. Voting begins on Thursday, April 16th at 3:00pm and will go through Thursday, April 23rd at 11:59pm.

Theatre Philadelphia launches $145,000 Emergency Relief Program for Theatre Workers

Theatre Philadelphia, the region’s theatre marketing and leadership organization, announces Theatre Philadelphia Emergency Relief as a response to the needs of the region’s theatre workers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting with a pool of $145,000, Theatre Philadelphia will award micro-grants of $300 on a first-come-first-serve basis to theatre workers impacted by COVID-19 closures and cancellations. Eligible applicants should live within a 35-mile radius of Philadelphia’s City Hall and work in any creative, technical, service, or administrative capacity in theatre. Applications open on Monday, April 13th.

Starting today, Evil Genius also will partner with Quick Sip beer delivery service to expand access to their beer and seltzer to across the city. Quick Sip delivery will mean that to get the new Felt Cute brew you only have to travel from your couch to the front door.

Debuting today, on the Zoo’s new Facebook Live Program- Philly Zoo at 2pm, the cub ventured outside for the first time ever, romping, playing, climbing and hanging with mom.

Jane Guo and Jackson Fu announced the grand opening of Dim Sum House by Jane G’s at 1930 Chestnut Street February 20, 2020 opening at 11:30am. The mother-son duo, who also operate Dim Sum House in University City, will bring all-day, every-day dim sum in two styles to Center City and Rittenhouse Square. The expansive restaurant and bar will feature 4,000 square feet of space, with seating for 120 inside and 20 outside. From the kitchen, guests will enjoy a menu that focuses on two authentic styles of Chinese dim sum (Shanghai and Cantonese), plus fried rice, noodles, chef specialties and familiar Chinese favorites from the Jiang Nan region of China. Notable favorites include Dim Sum House’s celebrated Pork Soup Dumplings, Dan Dan Noodles, Roast Pork Bao, Peking Duck, Pork Belly & Mustard Greens, Hot and Sour Soup, and Norwegian Whole King Crab done three ways, which currently is around $450 market price for 8 lbs.

Azuka Theatre continues to foster new works by local Philadelphia playwrights with the world premiere of Ship by Douglas Williams. Following a critically acclaimed and sold out run of Sunset Baby by Dominique Morriseau, Azuka continues their 2019-2020 season with the New Professionals Production of Ship from February 26 to March 15, 2020, presented at The Proscenium Theatre at The Drake (302 Hicks Street, Philadelphia). In Ship, audiences find Nell fresh out of rehab and returning to her hometown of Mystic, CT with two goals: track down her former classmate who tried and failed to grow the longest fingernails in the world, and be promoted to the most high profile job in town: tour guide at the Seaport. With the help and hindrance of her older sister, Nell grabs at her chance for hometown glory – but it’s not as easy as it looks.

Philadelphia Theatre Company continues its 45th Anniversary season with a perceptive drama about forgiveness set in Amish Country in Pennsylvania. PTC is thrilled to begin the year with the Philadelphia Premiere of Chelsea Marcantel’s The Kilroys List Honorable Mention pick, Everything is Wonderful. Directed by Noah Himmelstein, who directed this play at the Everyman Theatre in Baltimore last year, this beautiful new work about a nearby community runs February 14-March 8, 2020. Glu Hospitality, owners of Vesper Center City, Vesper Dayclub and Germantown Garden, announce the grand opening of Leda and The Swan at 1224 Chestnut Street, in Philadelphia's thriving Midtown Village neighborhood. For Leda, Glu principles Derek Gibbons and Tim Lu present a new cocktail and music hideaway for the culturally curious. The 2,500 square foot new cocktail bar and lounge will feature specialty craft cocktails created by well-known cocktail veterans Ryan Fenton and Zach Kessler.
