Philadelphia Theatre Company Presents Bob Garfield’s Ruggedly Jewish September 15-16

Philadelphia Theatre Company kicks off its 2017-2018 festival-style theatre season with the world premiere of Ruggedly Jewish: An Evening With Bob Garfield. Garfield’s crazy-quilt, hilarious odyssey is a search for self: the American self, the suddenly-emerging threatened self, and his own baffled self – a secular Jew. The Lower Merion native, and the co-host of public radio’s On The Media, returns to his roots by launching his one-man show right here. The show is three performances only, on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 8:00pm, and Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 3:00pm and 8:00pm. All performances are held at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre (480 S. East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District (EPABID) is revving up for the 12th Annual Car Show and Street Festival on Sunday, July 30, 2017, from 11:00am to 4:00pm, on EPA between Broad and Dickinson streets.  Over 140 muscle, classic, antique, custom and show cars, trucks and motorcycles will line the Avenue, with street vendors, rack sales, kids’ activities, live music and the Bang! Boom! CRAFT! Show in between.  Wine and dine among the cars as award-winning restaurants and food trucks serve specially priced street food and summertime drinks. Azuka Theatre Launches Pay-What-You-Decide Ticket Model For 2016-2017 Theater Season

Azuka Theatre invites audiences to pay-what-you-decide for the entire 2016-2017 theater season with an innovative new approach to ticketing. A city that celebrates so many historic “firsts” is the perfect place to launch the only full-season model of this kind in the United States. Audience members will make a reservation for a show, see the production first and then pay what they decide based on the value of the experience. Pay-what-you-decide is designed to bring in new audiences and remove financial barriers to theater. The program is supported by a $55,000 grant from The Barra Foundation. Shows in the new season will include the world premieres of Sh_theads by Douglas Williams and The Arsonists by Jacqueline Goldfinger, as well as the Philadelphia premiere of How We Got On by Idris Goodwin. Newbold Community Development Corporation fires up the grills again for the 2nd Annual South Philly SausageFest on Saturday, September 10, 2016 from 12:00pm to 8:00pm. South Philadelphia’s annual sausage-themed food fest takes place along West Passyunk Avenue (between South Broad and 15th streets). Look for sausage and sausage-inspired dishes cooked up in a variety of traditional and unique styles - including vegan - from ten restaurants and eateries that are part of the upcoming food scene on the other side of Broad Street. Festivities also include craft beer from seven breweries, live music, vendors and family fun.
