Chhaya Cafe Will Move to Larger Space on Popular East Passyunk Avenue Restaurant Row

Chhaya Cafe, East Passyunk Avenue

East Passyunk's popular brunch spot and coffee shop Chhaya Café announces that it will moveto a new larger space at 1817 East Passyunk Avenue in late spring/early summer. The current location at 1823 East Passyunk seats 28 in the dining room, with 1,500 total square feet (approximately 800 for dining). The new space will replace Sweet Alyssa, and feature 1,800 total square feet (with approximately 1,100 for dining). Chhaya's seating will expand from 28 to 55 seats in total. (Note: Sweet Alyssa is relocating across the street, FYI.)

Chef and owner V Beuria has already signed the lease and work started this week. The goal is to open the doors by June. Chhaya's current location will stay open to the opening of the new spot (or as close as possible). Beuria's goal is to have a smooth and seamless transition with as little interruption as possible to service.

While the new space will be larger, Beuria's goal is to have the same charming, intimate and neighborhood vibe as the current location. The popular brunch, lunch and breakfast menu will stay the same for the opening - with potential surprises down the road. Beuria's first and foremost goal during the early stage of the opening is to ensure Chhaya's longtime and neighborhood clients will have access to the quality food, coffee and baked goods that they have come to love. Once the new space is open Beuria will explore opening later on the weekends and enhancing dessert options.

Details about the interior, menu surprises and other move details are in progress. Beuria confirms she will personally oversee the interior design and decorating. Beuria helmed the design at the current space and also aided with the initial design and decorating at Center City's Toast.
