Airports and Armadillos: Philadelphia Zoo Teams Up with PHL International to Bring Animals to Airport

Philadelphia Zoo’s education team and animal ambassadors are connecting travelers to species from around the globe. The partnership, which started in 2019 and then was paused by the COVID-19 pandemic, is now back on a regular schedule to delight travelers and create joyful discovery of animals and habitats. Each month, the Philadelphia Zoo team will bring in ambassador animals to teach (and surprise) travelers as they wait for their flight, grab something to eat, or simply travel from security to their gate.

New Italian Steakhouse Announced to Open in Northern Liberties with Vibe Dining

Northern Liberties Restaurant Row will get a stunning new steakhouse that will bring vibe dining to Philadelphia. Restaurateur and Co-Owner Justin Veasey, and partners Mike Connors and William Muhr Jr., announce that SIN Philadelphia will open at 1102 Germantown Avenue, on the ground level of The Beverly - a 51 luxury Beverly Hills-inspired apartment complex is also slated to open later this year. SIN, which stands for Steak Italian Nightlife, will bring the dinner experience up a notch by pairing an upscale meal, Instagram ready cocktails and the perfect aesthetic with music and entertainment. The 4,750 square feet space will feature a main dining room, sweeping bar and private dining room/event space for a total of 200 seats. From the kitchen, SIN will serve great homemade cuisine with a menu of unique selections that are delivered in a high-end and show-stopping way that compliments the vibes of the space and the entertainment. The scratch kitchen will deliver authentic Italian cuisine, homemade pastas and high-end steaks. For a dish to remember, SIN will feature the experience of "cheese wheel" homemade pasta served tableside. For Sunday brunch, look for an all day celebration that starts early at 9:30am and goes into the early evening. For the bar program, look for 50-75 wines by the bottle, 10 by the glass and a focus on martini and unique cocktails.

New Philadelphia Sports Fan Bar Tinsel Takes Flight Debuts in Time for Playoffs

Philadelphia's premiere pop-up bar is back and ready to fly into the playoffs with the city's first-ever Philly sports fan theme pop-up bar and experience. Following sold out runs for Nightmare Before Tinsel and Tinsel Christmas Pop-Up Bar, Tinsel Takes Flight will open tonight, Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at 4:00pm at 116 S. 12th Street. Philadelphia sports fans can bleed green and cheer on the hometown team with 2,000 square feet of space for this one-of-a-kind sports fan experience. Fans will find sports memorabilia, original art installations, sports murals, photo opportunities, light installations and more. At the bar, look for a full menu of sports-inspired and Philly team inspired creations, such as Hurts So Good, Weapon X, Swole Batman, Philly Especial, The Graham Sacker, The Hungry Dog and more. The beer selection will include Free Will Dreams & Nightmares and Flying Fish Go Birds. Inside the sports fan experience, fans will find giant televisions placed throughout the space to catch playoff games, and of course, the big game on Sunday, February 12, 2023.

Wokworks Announces Grand Opening of 10th Location in Philadelphia Region

Owners Brennan and Samantha Foxman, and Fishtown Managing Partner Sidney Cooper, are thrilled to announce the grand opening of the 10th location for Wokworks. Wokworks Fishtown will fire up the woks for take-out, pick-up, delivery and catering on Friday, January 13th, at 11:00am, at 1429 Marlborough Street (corner of Marlborough and Frankford). When opened, the new flagship for Wokworks will have the largest menu of any Wokworks to date - with new menu items that include Bento Boxes, Tiger Fried Rice, Fresh Juice Shots, Crispy Rice Treats, Cinnamon Sugar Crispy Wonton "Chinese Churro" Chips, and several new vegan and gluten free options. New items join signature Wokworks favorites and staples, like Chili Garlic Chicken Rice Bowl, Dry Pepper Steak Rice Bowl, Drunk Noodles, Pad See Yew, Dan Dan Lo Mein, Bam Bam Chicken, Spicy Garden Bowl, Miso Soup, Crispy Dumplings - and build your own bowls where patrons can pick their base, protein, sauce and toppings. Iron Chef Jose Garces Announces Grand Opening of Garces Trading Company at Kimmel

James Beard Award Winner and Iron Chef Jose Garces announces the grand opening of Garces Trading Company at Kimmel, located inside the Kimmel Center at 300 S. Broad Street. The reinvented concept is back in an all-new way as a collection of casual cafes that are part coffee shop, restaurant, bakery, marketplace and corporate catering solution. For the new location on the Kimmel Cultural Campus, patrons will find an exclusive coffee roast that pays tribute to superstar conductor Yannick Nezet-Seguin of The Philadelphia Orchestra. Yannick’s Blend joins new food offerings that will include The Spotlight (Braised Short Rib), The Standing Ovation (Chicken Pot Pie) and The Bravo (Country Ham, Amish Butter, Baguette). For aesthetics, Chef has tapped Architect Kieran Timberlake and Marguerite Rodgers Interior Design to create one of the most visually stunning coffee shops and cafes in Center City. The café’s addition continues the transformation of the Kimmel Center’s Commonwealth Plaza into a vibrant all-day gathering space that will welcome the public throughout the day into the evening, while also accommodating pre- and post- event crowds. Garces Trading Company opens inside directly from the Plaza and outside from Spruce Street. Garces Trading Company at Kimmel is located across the Plaza from sister restaurant Volvér. Chef Juan Lopez Debuts as Chef in Residency at Volvér on Kimmel Cultural Campus

Chef Jose Garces announces Chef Juan Lopez as the next Chef in Residency at Volvér on Kimmel Cultural Campus. Chef Lopez’s residency will run from January 11, 2023 to February 12, 2023. Funding will both help Chef create a new catering division and new culinary jobs, while supporting the next generation of chefs through the Culinary Program at Jules E. Mastbaum High School. Currently, Lopez’s menu will include French Onion Soup, Burrata, Potato Gnocchi, Pan Seared Duck Breast, Butter Basted Scallops, Crispy Short Rib, Poached Meringue "Fargoias Congeladas", Port Custard "Pudim" and Rice Pudding "Arroz Doce." For the new Chefs in Residency Program, each Chef will showcase their top signature dishes on the Volvér menu for four to eight weeks, alongside Chef Garces' signature Portuguese-inspired dishes. Through a special donation program in partnership with the Garces Foundation, each Chef in Residency will have the opportunity to raise money to support their work with their current restaurant, or to use for the start of their next culinary journey. Volvér's hours for the season will be from Wednesday to Sunday, from 4:00pm to 9:00pm, with a special pre-theatre menu served from 4:00pm to 6:30pm, and happy hour from 7:30pm to 9:00pm. Northern Liberties Business Improvement District announces the return of Northern Liberties Restaurant Week from Friday, January 27 to Sunday, February 5, 2023. The city's hottest NEW restaurant week to hit the food scene is back with new dates, more restaurants, new restaurants, updated price points, indoor and outdoor options, take-out and delivery, and tons of the city's best eats! Moved to winter to support restaurants during the colder months, Northern Liberties Restaurant Week is back with nearly two dozen of the neighborhood's biggest names that will offer two course or more lunches for $10 or $15, and three or more course dinners for $15, $25 and $40. Look for special features and signature favorite dishes, outdoor options, artful and colorful dining rooms, cocktail features, and much more. Banksy Was Here: The Exhibition, an "unauthorized" Banksy exhibition, opens at Philadelphia Fashion District this Saturday, December 3, 2022 and runs through January 31, 2023. The experience will plunge visitors into the universe of the enigmatic Bristol-born street artist, offering an incredible journey featuring over 80 genuine and certified artworks from private collections.
