There’s something for everyone at La Festa - come celebrate with us on East Passyunk!”
La Festa, nicknamed after La Festa Della Repubblica and Italian National Day, is an Italian national holiday that celebrates when Italy became a republic in 1946. Many of the Museum’s Board of Directors, volunteers and members of the community immigrated here from Italy - or are first and second generation Italians. Each year, the local board and volunteers come together with the East Passyunk community to throw a celebration to mirror the festivals in Italy. La Festa is organized by Festival Director Saverio Nestico, along with an annual committee of volunteers that includes Nick Volpe, Kelly Alexander, Henry Amanto, Miguel Luzon, David Milano, Ray DeJohn and Joseph Rossetti.
Since its inception in 2010, this fun-filled party welcomes thousands of attendees who love and look forward to celebrating Italian culture and heritage in South Philadelphia- a traditionally Italian-American neighborhood. East Passyunk will be lined with vendors presenting an assortment of food, crafts, specialty items, wine, and beer. There will be two stages with sensational entertainment, wine-making demos, vodka water ice, culinary displays, children’s games and so much more. From children and teens to mature adults and everyone in between, there will be something for everyone. The line-up for this year’s festivities is found below.

HISTORY OF IMMIGRATION MUSEUM
At the heart of the festival, look for The History of Italian Immigration Museum at 1834 East Passyunk. Festival goers of all ages are invited to visit and experience this one-of-a-kind museum that celebrates Italian roots, American dreams, and immigration stories. The Museum made its official debut in 2014 during La Festa. Since then, thousands have come through its doors to experience tours starting with the story of Cristoforo Columbus and many other explorers, than through many decades and onto the stories of the millions of Italians immigrants who came to this country. Lastly, we roll into the Twentieth Century, where we focus on the War World II effort of the individuals who served in the forces. Hours during La Festa are 11:00am to 7:00pm. Admission is a five dollar donation to support Museum operations.
“La Festa creates tremendous exposure for not only the museum but for the entire organization and for all the East Passyunk Avenue businesses,” added Nestico. “Our neighborhood of East Passyunk Avenue is awesome, it’s thriving and it’s where everyone wants to eat, shop and hang out. East Passyunk Avenue has been the home of Filitalia International for 17 years before the explosion of excitement took over for the Avenue. We knew it’s potential and we are proud to call the Avenue our home.”
FESTIVAL PROCEEDS
Proceeds from La Festa support the operation of the museum, the organization’s scholarship programs, language and culture program, and Christmas Seals Program. Since 2006, the Christmas Seals Program during the holiday season have helped provide groceries, toys, bikes and clothing for hundreds of families in the Philadelphia region.
“La Festa is about our history, our culture but also our philanthropy,” said Filitalia International Vice President Henry Amanto. “Our mission is clear and we define our success by the amount of families we feed during Christmas, by the children that receive our scholarships, by the number of visitors to the museum and by the growing appreciation of the language and culture we create.”
