35 Restaurants Join Line-Up for Dine Out for the Environment by Clean Air Council
/Restaurants across the Philadelphia region will be serving up their signature dishes and highlighting their commitment to sustainability during Clean Air Council's Dine Out for the Environment on Thursday, October 13, 2016. This exciting event, will give diners a sneak peek into impressive kitchens that work hard to support local farms, reduce waste and chemical usage, and leave the world a better place for future generations. 15%-30% of their sales that day will be donated to the Clean Air Council to support the organization’s work across Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey.
“Delicious high-quality food and a healthy environment go hand in hand,” said Joseph Otis Minott, Clean Air Council Executive Director. “Since 1967, Clean Air Council has been fighting for everyone’s right to breathe clean air by advocating strong environmental policies, and educating the public across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware - protecting the air, water, and land where our food is grown. By dining out at the participating sustainable restaurants on October 13 you support the Council’s work and celebrate our region’s harvest."
Clean Air Council reviews all of the restaurants’ sustainability practices. Many restaurants source locally, compost and recycle waste, and use non-toxic cleaners. Some restaurants, like Trolley Car Cafe in East Falls and Square 1682 in Center City, find creative solutions that help the environment and bottom line. Trolley Car uses solar panels for heating and collects water in rain barrels to water their backyard kitchen garden. Square 1682 picks fresh herbs and produce for their dishes from their garden on the roof of Center City’s Hotel Palomar.
To participate in Dine Out for the Environment, simply enjoy food and drinks from any of the participating restaurants across the Philadelphia region on Thursday, October 13. 15%-30% of each bill will be donated to Clean Air Council. With more restaurants being added daily,
