Wale Announced for FREE Hip Hop for Philly Concert During AIDS Education Month
/Philadelphia FIGHT and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia present the “Hip Hop for Philly” free concert featuring Grammy nominated and chart-topping hip hop artist Wale. Tickets can be obtained only by young people aged 13-24 who receive a free HIV test at any participating agency or one of the Hip Hop for Philly free HIV testing events throughout Philadelphia. For participating testing sites, visit here. For more about AIDS Education Month, visit the official website.
The Hip Hop for Philly concert, hosted by Power 99’s Mikey Dredd, will also feature local
artists Chill Moody, ARSIN and DJNiiLO. Hip Hop for Philly’s goals are to provide youth with
inspiring role models, encourage them to know their HIV status, and educate themselves and
their community about safe and healthy behavior. In the project’s first year, more than 1,200
youth received HIV tests.
“It is so exciting to have Wale as the headliner for our second Hip Hop for Philly,” said Tiffany
Thompson, Director of Philadelphia FIGHT’s Youth Health Empowerment Project.
“Philadelphia’s rate of infection is 3.5 times that of the national average and those under 30 are
at the highest risk. This is the reason why one of our main goals for this event is to normalize
testing and break down the stereotypes of who should get tested. Wale’s participation in Hip Hop for Philly shows support around HIV education and awareness from the hip hop community that plays a huge role in influencing our youth. I am positive this year will be a success both for the show and for the health of Philly youth.”
