Parks On Tap Announces New Summer-Long Location at Fairmount Waterworks

Parks on Tap announces that a second summer-long location will make its debut this Wednesday, July 8, 2020 outside the famous Water Works (640 Waterworks Drive). The once traveling beer garden that gives back will now operate two stationary locations at the same time for the balance of the summer. The new Waterworks location will offer beautiful and sweeping views of Boathouse Row and the Schuylkill River. When open, patrons will be able to enjoy fresh food, beers on tap, wine and non-alcoholic beverages set in an outdoor environment with comfortable chairs and clean restrooms. Waterworks joins the already operating Parks on Tap outside Fairmount Horticulture Center Arboretum (100 N. Horticultural Drive). The new location will feature the same proven health and safety protocols that have already been launched with the Horticulture Center site, including additional cleaning measures, ability for contact tracing, and other procedures as prescribed by the City of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania. Parks on Tap is family (and fido) friendly. Season hours for Parks on Tap at the WaterWorks  will be Monday to Friday, from 4:00pm to 10:00pm, and Saturday and Sunday from Noon to 10:00pm. A daily digital sign-in is required. Food and drink are pay-as-you-go. Seating is first come, first served. For more information on the Parks on Tap safety plan and directions, please visit www.parksontap.com.

“Parks on Tap has proven to be a hit with local residents looking to get outside and enjoy our parks but keep their social distance and practice safety first,” said FCM Hospitality Owner Avram Hornik. “During the global pandemic, outdoor socially distanced options like Parks on Tap are more important than ever as city residents look to spend summer in the city, while they find new and different ways to enjoy stay-cation options.”

For 2020 for all Parks on Tap locations, FCM Hospitality acknowledges and shares the City of Philadelphia’s Safer at Home strategy, and for those who do venture outside, FCM announces the expansion of one of Philadelphia’s most beloved summer traditions now with a second summer-long location.

Parks on Tap is expanding on their first season as a stationary beer garden with the launch of a new location outside the famous and picturesque Fairmount Water Works at 640 Waterworks Drive. There will be a soft opening on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at 4:00pm and on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at 4:00pm, with the official grand opening and first day on Friday, July 10, 2020 at 4:00pm.

Parks on Tap will join and work with the existing business community outside Water Works, including Cosmic Cafe, a farm-to-table organic cafe option for guests, and Wheel Fun Rentals, who offers family-friendly 4-wheel multi-passenger surrey rides for sight-seeing along Boathouse Row. Wheel Fun is offering free rentals to medical first responders (hospital and urgent care workers, EMTS, paramedics, and firefighters). Organizing partners encourage everyone to support these partners while they also explore new park spaces during their day with Parks on Tap.

Along the Schuylkill River, Fairmount Water Works was built between 1812 and 1872 to provide safe, clean drinking water to a city on the cusp of remarkable growth and was in operation until 1909. Fairmount Water Works now houses a restaurant and an interpretive center that educates the public about local watershed history. The National Historic Landmark offers priceless views of Boathouse Row and the Center City skyline.

The set-up for the beer garden outside the Water Works building will be self-contained within roped boundaries, providing its own power, bathrooms, food and drink trucks, seating, shade and lights - all without use or dependency of existing park facilities. This means more money can be raised and make a direct impact on park improvements and future programming.

For food and drink, patrons can look to FCM Hospitality to provide a variety of local craft beers, wine and cocktails, as well as non-alcoholic beverages such as water, soda and iced tea. A full food menu is available for purchase that highlights items made from locally sourced items and snacks. The food menu will include bread and pastries from award-winning and nationally recognized affiliate partner Lost Bread Co. The beer menu will include Mainstay Independent Brewing Company’s Love Your Park Pale Ale. Love Your Park Pale Ale was originally created exclusively for Parks on Tap to help raise awareness for volunteering at loveyourpark.org. A portion of proceeds from the sale of the special ale goes back to support the parks.

Due to the global pandemic, Parks on Tap will be extensively following state regulations in regards as the best way to safely operate and will be adjusting (if necessary) to any additional city guidelines. Social distancing markers will be measured out and posted throughout the garden and its outside fencing area as reminders for guests. Daily entry sign-in also allows for contact tracing if a local outbreak occurs. Sanitizing spray and/or wipes will be accessible to guests, so they are able to wipe down chairs and tables. Staff and guests in the beer garden area must always wear a mask, except when seated.  Staff will be subject to temperature checks prior to the start of all shifts to assure they are safely able to work. Additional cleaning standards will be implemented prior to opening, after closing and throughout the day by staff.

Parks on Tap is family and fido friendly. The beer garden is 21+ to enter. Children, families, and anyone under 21 are welcome to participate if they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who has legal identification. Alcoholic beverages must stay within the beer garden’s fenced area. This is required for full compliance with PLCB code. All patrons will be asked to digitally sign in when visiting the park. Signing in and entry are complementary and can be done in advance by visiting parksontap.com/signin. Well-behaved dogs are welcome and must always be on a leash.

Season hours for Parks on Tap at Fairmount Park’s Water Works will be Monday to Friday from 4:00pm to 10:00pm, and Saturday and Sunday from Noon to 10:00pm. Please note that hours and days of operation may change due to weather and special events. Please visit @parksontap on Instagram and Facebook for regular updates.
