“I am supporting The Second Chance Foundation simply because I believe in second chances. It is that simple,” said Fox 29’s Mike Jerrick. “The foundation provides funding for organizations which are helping at risk youth get back on track and give them resources and encouragement to turn their lives around.”
The Ya Gotta Try This Tasting Party was created by Jerrick (a Board Member of The Second Chance Foundation), along with Williams, and a committee of community volunteers. The event will pay homage to Jerrick's weekly segment that shows off an unusual, unexpected, exceptional and/or adventurous dish from one of the great restaurants in the region. All proceeds benefit The Second Chance Foundation, a non-profit organization that has provided funding over the past two years to community-based non profit organizations that prevent crime, reduce recidivism, and improve the quality of life for our neighborhoods here in Philadelphia. District Attorney R. Seth Williams states, “This event will allow the Board of the Second Chance Foundation and I an opportunity to honor our mission to raise money to serve ‘at risk’ youth and young adults in Philadelphia. Last year, we were able to provide grants for seven (7) organizations like the Sonny Hill Basketball League, the Turning Points for Children Organization and other non-profits that needed support for summer programming.”
The Second Chance Foundation was created in January of 2011, by District Attorney R. Seth Williams. Williams, a Philadelphian, who grew up in West Philadelphia and learned early the importance of family/support and giving back to the community. Once in office, Williams’ put thought into action and assembled a team of professionals that could share in his vision of finding ways to financially support non-profit organizations that work with youth in hopes of preventing crime in the City of Philadelphia.
