Philadelphia Zoo Lights Up Main Plaza With Blue Lights To Thank Healthcare Heroes

Philadelphia Zoo has lit up three of the enormous 80-foot-tall trees at the Main Plaza with dazzling blue lights to thank the frontline. The new light display on the trees and front entrance buildings at 34th and Girard are illuminated with the goal of ringing in the holidays while also thanking healthcare workers and first responders during the global pandemic. By lighting up the front plaza in blue, the Zoo is extending its wishes for a peaceful holiday and its appreciation for the thousands of citizens throughout the greater Philadelphia region for their kindness, dedication, and courage during an exceptionally challenging year.

Philadelphia Zoo to Host Inaugural Zoo-a-Thon in Partnership with 6ABC

Philadelphia Zoo, in partnership with 6ABC, will host its first-ever Zoo-a-Thon fundraiser, a multi-platform event scheduled on Thursday, November 19th. The fundraising begins at 6am on 6abc’s morning newscast and continues throughout the day with Facebook Live segments onsite at the Zoo at 10:00am, noon and 3:00pm. Viewers can log onto 6abc’s and the Zoo’s Facebook pages to watch incredible animals and awesome special guests.

Philadelphia Zoo's Unless™ Contest Receives National Innovation Education Award

Philadelphia Zoo is proud to announce that its Albert M. Greenfield Foundation UNLESS™ Contest (The UNLESS Contest) has been awarded the prestigious, national Innovation Education Award at the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Annual 2020 Conference. The Conference is the largest, most comprehensive zoo and aquarium professionals’ event in the country. Philadelphia Zoo was selected as the winner by peers from 240 zoos and aquariums across the country. The Innovation Education Award recognizes outstanding achievement in educational program design, judging programs on the ability to promote conservation knowledge, attitudes and behavior, show innovation, and measure success.

Philadelphia Zoo Announces Return Of Annual Halloween Celebration Boo At The Zoo

Philadelphia Zoo (3400 West Girard Avenue) announces the return of Boo at the Zoo Presented by Chase. This top annual Halloween extravaganza will return to America's first Zoo for three enchanting weekends, on October 16 to 18, October 23 to 25, and October 30 to November 1, 2020, from 10:00am to 4:00pm each day. Get ready for some tricks and some treats - and tons of fall fun - during everyone's favorite October tradition. Kids of all ages are invited to come out with their families in their favorite costumes and set out on a not-so-spooky safari. Ticket times and reservations will go on sale on October 1st at PhiladelphiaZoo.org. Admission for Boo at the Zoo is free with the regular price of admission.

Philadelphia Zoo Sets New Hours, Open Friday through Sunday Starting this Fall

Philadelphia Zoo announced today plans to open to guests and members on Friday through Sunday beginning September 7th. “We took a concentrated look at the visitation patterns of our guests and members since reopening in July and have realized that it makes the most sense to be open Friday through Sunday. This allows people to schedule their visits around upcoming work and school schedules.” says Vikram H. Dewan, Philadelphia Zoo’s President & CEO. “Typically, during this time of the year, we welcome school groups on weekdays, and that’s just not going to be possible this year,” says Dewan.

Philadelphia Zoo Welcomes A Caribbean Flamingo Chick To Its Growing Flock

Philadelphia Zoo is pleased to welcome an adorable new member to its ever-growing family: a flamingo chick, hatched on July 12—is the first of this species to hatch at the Zoo in more than 20 years! To avoid disturbing the new flamingo family and the rest of the flock during this sensitive stage in development, Zoo staff has not yet handled the chick so its height, weight and its sex is not yet confirmed. Philadelphia Zoo Announces Reopening Date, Tickets Go on Sale This Week!

Philadelphia Zoo Celebrates Animal Moms for Mother's Day and Announces New Babies

This Mother’s Day, Philadelphia Zoo (3400 Girard Ave) will honor all of its animal moms living at the Zoo. Spring is in the air and the Zoo welcomes many new babies making this a very special year for the Zoo. The Zoo is proud to introduce the following new babies and their Moms, including Black & White Ruffed Lemurs, Andean Geese, Sebastopol Geese, and of course, the Sloth Bear Cub. Additionally, Kira and Honi are busy gorilla moms raising toddlers Ajabu and Amani. As a special Mother's Day message for Moms here and around the country and globe, Philadelphia Zoo shares a special Mother's Day video spotlighting these new moms and their babies.
