New Stage Comedy "Muddled" by Josh Piven Makes World Premiere in Philadelphia

New York Times best-selling humorist Josh Piven brings his unique brand of comedy to Philadelphia with the world premiere of Muddled, A Stage Comedy, from June 16 through June 26 at Drexel URBN Annex (3401 Filbert St). Penned by the author of The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook and directed by William Steinberger, Muddled gives theater audiences a best-case scenario for what happens when a group of hot-headed headbangers meet the home-grown hipsters of Brooklyn. In this craft brewed comedy, Piven trades navigating alligator pits for navigating mosh pits, and surviving frostbite for surviving the frosty bite of a quick-witted hipster. Muddled is Piven’s second play, following 2013’s hit No Reservations.

Inis Nua Theatre Presents American Premiere of The Radicalisation of Bradley Manning

Inis Nua Theatre Company moves to The Proscenium Theatre at its new home The Drake (at 203 South Hicks Street) to present The Radicalisation of Bradley Manning by Tim Price. The American premiere of this Welsh play revives some not-so-long-ago American history to tell the story of the young Army intelligence analyst who leaked the largest amount of classified documents in U.S. history.
The Radicalisation of Bradley Manning opens on Friday, April 29 at 8:00 pm, with previews on Wednesday, April 27 and Thursday, April 28 at 7:00 pm. The Radicalisation of Bradley Manning runs for a total of 16 performances, through May 15, 2016. All shows are at the Proscenium Theatre at The Drake, 203 South Hicks Street. South Hicks Street is right next to The Drake apartment building at 1512 Spruce Street.

40 Bands to Rock South Street Spring Festival on Saturday, May 7, 2016

South Street Headhouse District announces that 40+ bands will rock the city on Saturday, May 7, 2016 during the 4th Annual South Street Spring Festival. The all-day, all-ages, free outdoor festival and concert will feature a mix of rock, funk, soul, hip hop, indie rock, reggae, R&B and country acts that will entertain an estimated 58,000+ people on three main stages and seven other performance areas on South Street and in Headhouse Square. Headhouse Square will also roll out the green for a special lawn concert with real grass for lounging and dancing in the sun! Festivities are free, with food and drink pay-as-you-go.

Philadelphia Artists' Collective and Philadelphia School of Circus Arts Bring Circus and Theater Together in He Who Gets Slapped

Behind the curtain of the big top, no one is laughing harder than the saddest clown of them all. Philadelphia Artists’ Collective, in partnership with Philadelphia School of Circus Arts, presents the Philadelphia premiere of He Who Gets Slapped, from March 30 to April 16, 2016, at Broad Street Ministry (315 S. Broad Street). A cast of clowns, lion-tamers and ringmasters perform their routines under a striped awning and glowing lights. When a new clown arrives, his cheerful makeup conceals a dark secret from his past. PAC’s Co-Founding Artistic Director Damon Bonetti directs an ensemble cast of familiar faces, who will perform their own circus skills with training from PSCA’s Circus Art / Movement Choreographer Terry Brennan.

Inis Nua Theatre Partners with Free Library on American Premiere of Spine by Clara Brennan at New Drake Theater

Inis Nua Theatre Company turns a new page at The Drake with the American premiere of Spine, by English playwright Clara Brennan. Spine is a heart-warming, funny and defiant love-song to libraries, an increasingly endangered species under Britain's austerity government. A fiery and wise-cracking teenager forges an unlikely friendship with an elderly widow living in a house of stolen books. Together, the two discover they may be each other’s last resort in life. Spine opens on Friday, February 19 at 8:00pm, with previews on Wednesday, February 17 and Thursday, February 18 at 7:00pm. Deen has lost over 40 pounds and will share her favorite recipes lightened up on stage for two demonstrations on Saturday, October 17, 2015, at 1:00pm and 3:00pm. Recipes will come from her soon-to-be-released 15th cookbook, entitled Paula Deen Cuts the Fat. Theatre Exile begins their 19th season by searching for the moral center with the world premiere of Rizzo, by award-winning playwright and South Philadelphia resident Bruce Graham. Based on “Rizzo: The Last Big Man in Big City America” by Sal Paolantonio (published by Camino Books, Inc.), Rizzo brings one of the most divisive figures in Philadelphia’s history to the stage October 15 through November 8, 2015 (opening night October 21) at Christ Church Neighborhood House (20 N American Street).
