Hawthornes Beer, Booze and Bubbly Block Party Coming to South Philly on Saturday, May 14th

Hawthorne Beer Café (738 S. 11th Street) is reviving its storied beer-centric block party, and adding booze and bubbly to the mix. Hawthornes Beer, Booze and Bubbly Block Party will take over 11th Street (from Fitzwater to Catherine) on Saturday, May 14, 2022, from 11:00am to 7:00pm. The usual lineup of parked cars will be replaced with craft beer trucks, big sound bands, and street food eats. Look for $6 local and craft brew pours from your favorites like La Cabra, Conshohocken, Tröegs, Victory, Flying Fish, Yards, Two Roads and more. Food trucks will include French Toast Bites by Lokal Artisan Foods, The Little Scillian, Korea Taqueria, Cloud Cups, Jammin J's, Barkley's BBQ and others to be announced. The music line-up will include The Mini Q's, The Sermon, Snacktime and DJ Adrian Hardy. This all-day, all-ages event is rain or shine. Admission is free and open to the public. This is a cash only event, with drink tickets available at the entrance. Hawthornes will be closed inside for normal seating. "It's go big or go home," said Hawthornes owner Chris Fetfatzes. "Anyone who knows me knows I can't do anything halfway, and this year's block party is all in. You don't even have to like beer. We've got cocktails, funky wine, seltzers and ciders. The music alone is worth the price of admission, which by the way is free! It's a no-brainer. Bring your kid. Bring your grandma. Bring your dog. And bring your appetite, because this isn't just about the day drinking - the snacks are gonna slap."

Co-owner Heather Annechiarico added, "We're extremely proud to be a part of Philly's restaurant scene, and we're privileged to have the ability to host events, like our block parties, that bring everyone together as an opportunity to let loose. Our block parties are about more than just the booze -- they're an opportunity to celebrate our city and our vibrant neighborhood with the fuel of delicious food, lively music, and sure, yes, the occasional negroni -- 2:1:1, please."

Muller, Inc. and Penn Beer go head-to-head in a friendly face-off of two jam-packed beer trailers pouring $6 local and craft brews from your favorites like La Cabra, Conshohocken, Tröegs, Victory, Flying Fish, Yards, Two Roads and a top secret limited release Double Nickel brew. Hawthorne may be known as Philly's premiere bier cafe, but don't let that fool you. These are the same people who've brought marg-famous Tio Flores, Sonny's Cocktail Joint (resurrecting soon) and the newly minted Rabbit to Philly's dining scene. There will be no shortage of boozy bevs from all three sister-properties with the cocktail lineup shaping up to include:

• Tito's Mules
• Jack Daniels Lynchburg Lemonades
• Negroni Sbagliatio
• Grapefruit Cosmopolitan
• Watermelon Margarita
• Passion Fruit Margarita
• Bell Pepper Paloma
• Raspberry Mint Mule
• Bourbon Black Tea Spritzer
• Bourbon black tea spritzer
• Vernal Gin & Tonic

Never one to be left out of a party, WineDive is turning out and turning it up by inviting some of our region's top purveyors -- Vine Street Imports, CBL Wine Company, Skurnik and Breakthru -- to pour their wares, from refreshing vinho verdes to sparkling rosés and the occasional orange natty for good measure.

Wear the stretchy pants because the food trucks are stuffing it in harder than the cornbread on Turkey Day. So far we're planning our brunch, lunch and dinner around:

• French Toast Bites by Lokal Artisan Foods will bring their lightly fried, melt-in-your-mouth artisan french toast bites and all the fixin's including fresh berries, caramel, whipped cream, and their signature seasoning spice. Not to mention their house-roasted coffee will perk you up to power you through the afternoon.
• The Little Sicilian will be ballin' -- rice ballin' that is. Pizza bites take a back seat to arancini stuffed with chicken parm, cheesesteak, and sausage-n-rabe.
• Korea Taqueria is the best of when two worlds collide showcasing tortilla shells loaded with beef bulgogi, gochujang chicken, and ssamjang eggplant, not to mention that extra kick from truck-fermented kimchi slaw.
• Cloud Cups mellows the groove with their CBD-infused gelatos and sorbets. Look for flavor flavor faves like banana pudding, strawberry french toast, blueberry mascarpone, and pineapple coconut.
• Jammin J’s catches buzz all about town with the biggest fish sandwich to ever come off a lil' red truck.
• Barkley’s BBQ will have you lickin' your fingers after tucking in to their St. Louis-style ribs, smoked brisket, and traditional sides like mac-n-cheese and collards.

But wait, there's more! The swimsuits will still fit come Memorial Day since festival goers will be dancing it all off to a music lineup of bands and beats:

• The Mini Q's, a staple trio in the Philadelphia jazz scene, kick things off at 11am with a Stevie Wonder Tribute to celebrate the artist's birthday on May 13th.
• The Sermon! preaches to the lunchtime choir beginning at 1pm with their modern twist on classic soul, funk and jazz. The Coatesville-based quartet is beloved for their vintage style and instruments including Lorelei, a Hammond B-3 organ.
• For those who've missed their Rittenhouse musings, Snacktime hits the stage at 3:30 with their seven-piece brass band blaring pop and r&b tunes. Fuddy-duddy neighbors be damned.
• DJ Adrian Hardy brings it all home at 5pm with his laid back yet high energy sound that will keep us movin' and groovin' long after the kegs kick. Kidding. With that beverage lineup there will be drinks for days. Coachella who?

Guests will be required to show valid I.D. Must be 21 or older to drink. Guests will enter at 11th and Fitzwater where ID will be checked, wristbands distributed, and drink tickets can be purchased. All sales in the Beer, Booze and Bubbly Block Party will be pay-as-you-go and cash only.
