Inis Nua Theatre Company Presents The Swallowing Dark By Lizzie Nunnery October 4 to 22, 2017

Myths and dreams will swirl through the Louis Bluver Theatre at The Drake (302 South Hicks Street) in October as Inis Nua presents Lizzie Nunnery’s The Swallowing Dark. From England, this drama deals with the bureaucratic fragility of asylum for one family, but the nature of truth itself commands center stage. As The Independent said, “Can the truth ever be turned into a clear, consistent story? That’s one of the troubling questions that underlie The Swallowing Dark, Lizzie Nunnery’s powerfully suggestive new play.”

Kathleen Turner Launches Cabaret Career At Philadelphia Theatre Company With Finding My Voice

Les Dames D’escoffier’s Outstanding In Her Field Farm Dinner Celebrates Ann Karlen

Les Dames D’Escoffier Philadelphia will honor the pioneering farm, food and community work of Ann Karlen at the Outstanding in Her Field Farm Dinner on Sunday September 17, 2017 at 4:00pm to 7:00pm. This annual awards fundraiser will be held among the vineyards at The Inn at Grace Winery (50 Sweetwater Road, Glen Mills). The dinner is designed to recognize talented women making a difference in the culinary field. This year’s honoree is Ann Karlen who lives and breathes what it means to be “farm-to-table,” by creating a community of farmers and food artisans to encourage the use of local produce and goods. Karlen succeeds last year’s winner Chef Esther McManus, a culinary pioneer and local food legend. Guests and friends of the honoree will feast on a locally sourced communal meal created by talented chef-members of LDEI Philadelphia, paired with luscious wines crafted on the property. Funds raised by the event will help to fund scholarships for women entering the culinary field.

Twenty East Passyunk Chefs Join Forces For An Unforgettable Night At Bok Bar September 18

East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District announces the return of “Up on a Roof - The Chefs of Passyunk at Bok Bar” on Monday, September 18, 2017, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Twenty chefs and restaurateurs from Philadelphia’s restaurant row will celebrate the neighborhood's thriving culinary scene with a cocktail party and benefit on top of Bok Bar (800 Mifflin) in the former Bok Technical High School. Guests will enjoy one of the city’s most picturesque views while enjoying cuisine from top chefs like Nicholas Elmi, Joncarl Lachman, Todd Wentz, Chris Kearse, Lee Styer, Lynn Rinaldi and others. Philadelphia School of Circus Arts Celebrates Grand Opening with Free Circus Classes

The big top is on the move! Philadelphia School of Circus Arts announces the grand opening of a new 28,000-square-foot circus school and training studio at the former home of St. Madeleine Sophie Church (6452 Greene Street) in West Mt. Airy. Students from the tri-state region will soar to new heights in the sanctuary that boasts 40 foot tall ceilings, original brilliant stained glass windows and an observation gallery. One hundred weekly classes will be offered for adults and children, from beginner to advanced students, in aerials, juggling, unicycling, tightwire, tumbling, acrobatics and physical conditioning. The new facility will also be home to the history-making Circadium School of Contemporary Circus - the first state-licensed vocational circus school in the United States.

Philadelphia Theatre Company Presents Bob Garfield’s Ruggedly Jewish September 15-16

Philadelphia Theatre Company kicks off its 2017-2018 festival-style theatre season with the world premiere of Ruggedly Jewish: An Evening With Bob Garfield. Garfield’s crazy-quilt, hilarious odyssey is a search for self: the American self, the suddenly-emerging threatened self, and his own baffled self – a secular Jew. The Lower Merion native, and the co-host of public radio’s On The Media, returns to his roots by launching his one-man show right here. The show is three performances only, on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 8:00pm, and Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 3:00pm and 8:00pm. All performances are held at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre (480 S. Philadelphia Beekeepers Guild Hosts Philadelphia Honey Festival September 7, 9 & 10

The Philadelphia Beekeepers Guild announces the return of the Philadelphia Honey Festival on September 7, 9 and 10, 2017 at Glen Foerd on the Delaware, Wyck Historic House and Bartram’s Garden. All three historic sites will be buzzing with three days of activities that include open hive demonstrations, honey extractions, open hive talks, children’s activities, honey tastings, mead tastings, sales from local beekeepers, presentations and a bee-bearding demonstration. Parks on Tap Jr. also makes its official debut for the final day of the Philadelphia Honey Festival 2017 at Bartram’s Garden. This is a mini version of the Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, Fairmount Park Conservancy and Avram Hornik of FCM Hospitality traveling beer garden.
